Tutu Tuesday in Taunton: A whirlwind of pink, disco and…dolphins?
So, Tutu Tuesday rolled into Taunton and it was everything I dreamt of and more! I've been a big fan of #Tutuesday since I first stumbled across the hashtag online a couple of years back. It's so much more than just a chance to bust out your most fabulous tutu, it’s a celebration of creativity and individuality. And I must say, Taunton really knows how to party. As a ballet dancer and avid lover of all things pink and sparkly, a tutu is never too far from my thoughts. My tutu collection is a thing of beauty and the centrepiece of my wardrobe. But let's face it, wearing a tutu outside of the dance studio can feel a bit out of place, right? That's where #Tutuesday comes in! The idea of #Tutuesday is to wear a tutu – no matter your style – in everyday life. And Taunton took it to the next level with #Discotutu! Think shimmering pink tulles, groovy disco beats and the sheer delight of seeing fellow tutu-wearers strutting their stuff all over town. We had tutus of all shapes and sizes. * There were the classic ballerina-esque tutus, billowing with layers of white or pale pink tulle, reminding me of those blissful childhood performances. * The ultra-chic tutus with shorter lengths, perfect for a night out on the town, accessorised with sparkling jackets and sassy stilettos. * Then there were the adventurous ones – rainbow colours, metallic hues, the tutus that weren't afraid to break the mould! And what's more? Taunton residents took it even further with the disco-infused #Discotutu vibes. Picture it – sparkling tutus under disco balls, shimmering sequined tops, flamboyant eye make-up, and people really living their best lives! The music was everything I could have hoped for – 70s hits, funky grooves and even some cheesy pop thrown in for good measure! One particular moment that really stood out for me was when a group of children – dressed in tiny, fluffy pink tutus – formed a impromptu dance troupe in the town square. I don’t know about you, but I feel it’s always heart-warming to see the joy on children’s faces when they are immersed in anything so vibrant and full of expression. But what really surprised me, was the emergence of #Discodolphin. Let me explain. Now, dolphins are often linked to pink and all things beautiful, right? And of course, Taunton is right near the coast. So when a group of dancers popped up wearing vibrant pink tutus emblazoned with images of leaping dolphins, it was the most whimsical, feel-good thing I have ever seen! It’s safe to say that I instantly became a #Discodolphin convert! And it wasn't just about the costumes – #Tutuesday brought people together! There were so many laughs, smiles, and heartfelt moments. Strangers struck up conversations, shared dance moves, and took pictures with each other. All in all, Tutu Tuesday in Taunton was an unforgettable experience – a testament to the fact that you don’t have to be a professional dancer to twirl around in a fabulous tutu!
