Tutu Tuesday in Bellingham, Washington: Where Ballet Meets Fashion

Hey everyone, it’s your girl, Amelia here, and it’s officially Tutu Tuesday! Let’s talk tutus. You know I can’t resist a good Tutu Tuesday and I have been feeling the creative spirit so I decided to hit the streets of Bellingham to see what’s happening. Oh, and of course, show off some tutu inspiration!

It’s amazing how the tutu has transcended the confines of the ballet studio and has taken the fashion world by storm. And while we’re on the subject of fashion, you guys have got to check out the gorgeous new collection at Bella Ballerina on Commercial Street. They've got these super cute pastel-colored tutus with layers of tulle – think fairytale princess but with a modern edge. And their price points are insane - they make breaking the bank almost effortless. You'll want to wear them for everyday, no doubt about it.

This week in Bellingham we're witnessing a truly special evolution of ballet, and it’s not all about classical tutu designs. There’s an emerging artistic vibe where ballerinas like myself are breaking boundaries and reinventing what a tutu can be. We're seeing these amazing, modern tutus with all kinds of bold fabrics, even upcycled materials like vintage denim. Some have asymmetrical shapes, and even ripped and distressed fabric.

But don’t get it twisted - this isn’t a departure from traditional ballet. In fact, it's an incredible evolution of the art form. And while we're on the topic of classic tutus, Bellingham’s got that too! Just pop over to the Bellingham Ballet Studio and let them outfit you with everything from romantic, single-layer romantic tutus for a performance to classic, four-layered traditional tutus for a dress rehearsal. They’ll take good care of you and all of your needs. If you’re in town, get yourself down there! You know, they even have ballet classes for kids - how great is that?

But Bellingham isn't the only place where Tutu Tuesdays are alive and well, They’re popping up everywhere across the United States, but in places with a long ballet history like Bellingham, you feel a little something extra. The energy is electric! Whether you’re hitting the stage, taking a ballet class, or simply adding a little bit of tulle to your everyday look, let’s all make sure Tutu Tuesdays are a regular part of the week. What can I say? I think they make everything better.

This past week at The Bellingham Ballet Academy we had a Tutu Tuesday where all the students were encouraged to wear tutus during class and let’s just say we were all feeling ourselves. Even my dance partner, Max, had some serious flair wearing a little white tutu, even though I think he was mostly focused on not making me laugh.

I'll keep you posted on upcoming tutu events here in Bellingham and beyond – trust me, the Tutu Tuesday world is bursting with new styles and events! But for now, happy Tutu Tuesdays to all my fellow ballerinas!

And here are my top Tutu Tuesday tips:

  • **Go bold with color. A bright tutu can transform your everyday outfit from bland to brilliant. Think hot pink, sunshine yellow, or even a daring teal!**
  • **Experiment with different fabrics and lengths. Maybe you’ll like a tulle tutu with some added lace or some fun polka dots. And let’s not forget a tutu dress! If it works for Audrey Hepburn in Funny Face, then it'll work for us.
  • **Mix and match. Put your tutu over leggings, pair it with a vintage sweater or a chic black blazer, and have some fun mixing styles.

Let’s make Tutu Tuesdays a weekly celebration of the grace, style, and joy of dance. Show me your tutus - you guys know I have a weakness! Don’t forget to use #tututuesday so we can see how you’re rocking it and use #Bellingham to get on the local scene, or even use #tutu or #tutulove - the more hashtags, the merrier.

This is Amelia, signing off! And stay fabulous!
