Tutu Tuesday in Fontenay-sous-Bois, Île-de-France, France #tututuesday

G'day, darlings! It's your girl, Chloe here, straight from the heart of Paris, but not exactly on the Champs-Élysées. Today, we're heading a bit further out, to Fontenay-sous-Bois, a delightful little commune just east of the city. You wouldn't believe the gorgeous tutu action happening here!

You see, I've been living it up in Paris for the past six months, dancing with the Ballet du Rhin. And while I absolutely adore the energy and sophistication of Paris, sometimes I crave a bit more space, a bit more peace and quiet, and let's be honest, a little break from the crowds! So, this past weekend, I decided to explore a bit beyond the city limits and discover a hidden gem: Fontaine-sous-Bois! Not exactly a hotspot for touristy shenanigans, but a place with a vibrant history and, more importantly for me, a local ballet school with a secret passion for tutus!

And let me tell you, this place is full of surprises! It's got that charming, authentic Parisian feel, you know? The little cafés are adorable, the streets are lined with pretty shops, and the people are genuinely friendly, like they know something special is brewing in their little corner of Île-de-France. Plus, there's a delightful mix of old and new – beautiful buildings dating back to the 19th century juxtaposed with chic, modern apartments. It's basically like stepping into a Parisian postcard!

Now, I wouldn't be a ballet blogger if I didn't tell you all about the stunning tutus I stumbled upon! I was blown away by the diversity, ranging from the classic, romantic styles to super-contemporary designs. There were delicate tulle tutus that practically floated, and some powerful, dramatic pieces with dramatic lines and intricate details. One tutu in particular had me absolutely smitten. Imagine a midnight blue masterpiece with a cloud of tulle cascading over a glittering, deep blue bodice, a splash of red satin roses peeking through the layers of the tutu. Pure elegance, but with an edge of rebellion. Talk about a ‘don't-mess-with-me’ kinda look, yet still maintaining a sparkle and grace!

But what truly captured my heart was the community spirit behind it all. Everyone in the school – students, teachers, and even the parents – were so genuinely passionate about dance. They embraced a love of tutus that's infectious, like the whole town is buzzing with ballet! And just a little peek inside their dance studios, the dedication and passion shining through – they're taking it all so seriously! You can see the students pushing their boundaries and finding their voices through movement.

And yes, there was a very strong French touch to it all – it was like watching a dance version of “Amelie.” That unique blend of Parisian chic with a sprinkle of quirkiness and artistic flare, you know what I'm talking about. It's not just about tutus, though. It's about expressing your soul and pushing creative boundaries, which is something we dancers live for! There's this captivating mix of classic Parisian charm, a sprinkle of artistry, and the dedication of everyone involved, that makes Fontenay-sous-Bois, a total ballet paradise, even if it’s not the biggest ballet city in France!

And wouldn't you know it, the dance studio had an open class with a focus on the art of tutu, something I couldn't pass up, especially after seeing all those incredible tutus on display. It was so refreshing to dance amongst a community of like-minded tutu fanatics, and share in the pure joy of movement.

While there’s a fair amount of competition in ballet circles in Paris, Fontenay-sous-Bois has a refreshingly supportive vibe, everyone seemed genuinely excited to support one another. The French spirit of encouragement and collaboration was tangible - which was a lovely change from the hustle and bustle of Paris, although you can’t beat the world-class dance shows Paris has on offer. But Fontenay-sous-Bois was the perfect dose of small-town charm! They just know how to celebrate and embrace the joy of tutus.

You can feel it in the air - the passion, the artistry, and the pure love for dance! Even if you're not a tutu fanatic, the community spirit alone is worth the trip.

So, if you're in Paris, venture out, hop on the metro and check out Fontenay-sous-Bois. I’m sure you’ll feel the Tutu Magic in the air! Remember, darlings, dance like no one's watching and wear a tutu whenever you feel like it. That's my motto, and I hope it inspires you too!

Until next time, stay sparkly!

Your ballerina in Paris,

Chloe
