Tutu Tuesday in Meythet, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France: A Ballet Blogger's Adventure #tututuesday

G'day from the charming town of Meythet, nestled in the breathtaking Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France! As a ballet dancer and blogger with a passion for all things twirly, I simply couldn't resist celebrating Tutu Tuesday in this beautiful part of the world. The French are renowned for their elegance and artistry, and their dedication to ballet is simply inspiring. From the iconic Paris Opera Ballet to the countless smaller ballet schools tucked away in towns like Meythet, ballet holds a special place in the hearts of the French.

Today, I'm sharing a glimpse into my Tutu Tuesday adventure, a day where I explored the ballet scene in Meythet and even got to twirl a little myself!

The Local Ballet Scene

My first stop was the **Centre Chorégraphique National de Lyon**, just a short drive from Meythet. Founded by renowned choreographer Mourad Merzouki, the Centre is a vibrant hub for contemporary ballet. It’s the beating heart of French contemporary ballet and I felt it buzzing with creative energy as I walked through its halls. You could feel the passion for dance in the air! It was incredibly inspiring to see such talented artists dedicating themselves to pushing the boundaries of ballet.

It got me thinking about my own ballet journey and the beautiful simplicity of classic ballet. I could see myself performing in a tutu made of tulle and adorned with delicate ribbons or a Romantic tutu – the long and graceful style popularised in the 1800s. Even though it can get tangled up in your legs sometimes!

Tutu Tuesday Twirling in Meythet

Feeling inspired by the professional dancers at the Centre, I decided to do a little impromptu tutu-twirling of my own. Thankfully I always pack my lucky tutus – a black tutu, with an added dash of shimmer for good luck. After all, every dancer needs a bit of sparkle in their life.

My favourite part of the day was meeting with local ballet dancers. They were all so enthusiastic and excited about ballet. I learned so much about the local ballet scene in Meythet, and it’s something I’m keen to follow. Their stories, their struggles, their joy and their dedication to their craft reminded me why I love this art form so much. It’s an incredible feeling, sharing a common passion with other people around the globe.

From talking about different tutu styles, the types of shoes that best fit my feet, right down to the specific music we each enjoyed – these are the little things that connect dancers, no matter what language you speak, what time zone you’re in, or whether you're performing on a grand stage or on a small community stage, these things bind you.

More Than Just Twirls

Don’t get me wrong, ballet’s more than just pirouettes and grand jetés – It’s about telling stories, pushing your boundaries, and connecting with others on a deeply emotional level. But as you know, a tutu always adds a bit of magic, a touch of elegance and whimsy to every performance! And who doesn't love a twirl?!

Tips for a Tutu Tuesday Celebration

Whether you're a professional ballerina or just a tutu enthusiast, I encourage you to celebrate Tutu Tuesday. You can twirl in your living room, at the park, in the office or, of course, at a local ballet performance. Just remember to keep it fun and fabulous. Here’s how I suggest you do it!

  • Embrace the pink. Wear pink, embrace pink, find everything pink! Whether it's a pink tutu, a pink ribbon or a pink flower in your hair. Let's all add a touch of 'Tutu Tuesday' colour to the world.
  • Be Bold. Don't be shy. There's no right or wrong way to celebrate Tutu Tuesday. Find what inspires you and rock it. Do a dance routine in the park, put up posters, do an interview or even get in touch with a local dance school.
