Tutu Tuesday in Braidwood, New South Wales: A Celebration of Dance and Fashion

Hey everyone! It's your girl, Chloe, back with another post, and today's all about celebrating #tututuesday! I'm thrilled to be in Braidwood, New South Wales, a little town with a big heart and a serious passion for all things dance. It’s honestly a total treat to be here! This week, Braidwood is getting a whole lot of twirling action as the local dance schools are celebrating the magic of tutu’s – and believe me, there are some serious tutus here! Let's take a spin through the highlights!

Now, I'm sure some of you have heard about the tutu scene in Braidwood - it’s definitely buzzing. I’ve had a peek at a few classes and I can tell you this – it's not just about any ol' tutu. We're talking the real deal - classics, contemporary styles, and even some with a cheeky vintage vibe. It’s absolutely fabulous!

  • Classics with a Twist: One thing I noticed here is that they've kept the timeless classics in play, from the iconic Romantic tutu – those with flowing layers of tulle, often accented by an extravagant design of tiny sequins or delicate hand embroidery, which makes them perfect for a classic performance or a dreamy photo op. Then you have the streamlined and sassy Pointe tutu - you can never go wrong with a perfectly shaped tulle skirt – they work so well for ballet.
  • Contemporary Style: What’s brilliant is that they’re also embracing modern styles like the "Demi" and the "Platter tutu" - think sleek and streamlined designs, often with innovative fabrics like silk chiffons or satins. These look super stylish and bold – it’s what dance in 2023 is all about. The sheer layers give it such a modern look.
  • Vintage Flair: Some dancers here love vintage tutus with their super full skirts and an almost 'old Hollywood' glamour about them. There was one dancer wearing an amazing sparkly vintage-inspired creation! The design, complete with sequin swirls and silver mesh layers, totally wowed me. She was the image of a star!

Tutu Tuesday isn't just about the dance classes - it's a celebration of creativity and individuality. The whole community gets involved. The local shops are showcasing some fabulously curated collections - there were some amazing handmade headbands and jewellery that matched tutus perfectly, not to mention a new tutu shop that has just opened its doors. You could get anything from a handmade satin pouch with a miniature tutu sewn onto it, or a custom designed tutu – it’s insane. It’s not just tutus – think adorable tutu inspired keychains for your bag too, super cute!

Why Tutu Tuesday? It's a question that has been in my mind all week and the vibe here, with the entire town getting on board, says so much about how much Braidwood, and indeed Australia, loves their dance. Tutu Tuesday is a fun, energetic, community-based celebration – not to mention a beautiful expression of artistic creativity and self-expression. What's more awesome? It's spreading beyond Braidwood with dance schools and communities getting involved. We are starting to see it become a weekly celebration across the whole country and it's getting some serious momentum - I’ve been noticing posts with the #tututuesday hashtag across all the socials – just goes to show that our love for dance transcends geographic borders, from Melbourne to Perth and back.

So there you have it! My trip to Braidwood was everything I hoped it would be! I’m now ready to slip on my favorite tutu and celebrate with a good old-fashioned twirl. Here’s to Tutu Tuesday and a huge shout out to Braidwood - you are the heart and soul of this great Australian movement! Keep an eye out on my blog – I will keep you posted on my next tutu adventure!
