Tutu Tuesday in Twickenham

Well darlings, it's another glorious Tutu Tuesday and I am literally bursting with excitement! You see, today's all about combining my two greatest passions – tutus and unicorns! As any true devotee of dance and disco knows, the tutu is not just a garment, it’s an attitude! And this Tuesday, I’m feeling particularly sassy.

Now, Twickenham, as we all know, is the epicentre of rugby, and I have to admit that rugby boots are pretty cute (although, obviously, not as cute as a pair of perfectly pointed pointe shoes). But today, Twickenham's got a new flavour – it's been sprinkled with a generous dose of pink glitter, and everyone's suddenly channeling their inner fairy! So I grabbed my pinkest, most fabulous tutu (a gorgeous fluffy number with a multi-layered frill that's so dramatic it would make Moira Rose jealous) and hit the streets!

There’s a reason we’re celebrating Tutues in Twickenham, you know! It’s because today’s the big unveiling of the “Unicorn and Tutu” cafe – the latest and greatest spot for all your magical, frothy needs! Think, rainbows, sparkly decorations and all the sugary goodness your sweet tooth could ever want – complete with cupcakes decorated like miniature tutus (divine!). They’ve even got a unicorn-themed “tutu menu” with delicious-sounding dishes like "The Dancing Gazelle" (a gorgeous green salad) and "The Pink Petal Pizza" (imagine a fluffy pizza base, layered with a rainbow of colourful vegetables!) So far, so fabulous, but this is Twickenham we're talking about, so you just know that there’s got to be a twist!

The owner of the cafe, the fabulous Gloria, is also a passionate advocate for the arts – specifically, the art of ballet (a fellow tutu enthusiast!). The big draw of the cafe is Gloria's unique, interactive "Tutu Time". Every Tuesday, at precisely 3pm, she encourages the guests to gather around the coffee counter, for a quick "ballet and giggle" session. And yes, by “giggle,” I do mean she leads the entire cafe in a “flash mob” version of “Swan Lake”! Don’t judge; it’s truly a sight to behold!

Now, back to those tutus – as a lover of all things pink and fabulous, let’s talk tutu styles:

  • For those new to the tutu game, I’d suggest starting with a classic "Romantic Tutu". This tutu features multiple layers of soft, floaty tulle, a beautiful way to feel like a ballerina. Imagine swan-like elegance, a vision of delicate and effortless grace. Pink tulle is definitely a winner here!
  • Next up: “The Contemporary Tutu.” We’re moving into something more modern and less traditionally "fluffy.” A classic look that you can style for everyday, this one has fewer layers and a more streamlined silhouette - perfect for pairing with a sleek black top for that perfect pop of colour.
  • If you’re looking to embrace your inner fairy, the “Fairie Tutu” is calling your name! Imagine whimsical sparkle! Imagine tiny tulle ruffles! Imagine all those glorious colours!
  • Of course, every tutu collection has got to have a "Party Tutu"! If you're heading to a celebration, I strongly recommend you invest in this type of tutu! This tutu's all about bright colors, bold accents and sequins. It’s all about saying, “I'm here to dance and sparkle”! Just be warned – you may just need to hold on to your dignity! (I say this as I recall my own “sparkling” moments!)
  • And finally – you knew this one was coming! For those seeking the ultimate in magic, “The Unicorn Tutu.” We’re talking about tulle, sparkles, and enough tulle to make a unicorn drool! Think a beautiful cloud of fluffy pastel tulle, a generous scattering of colourful sparkles – the unicorn theme needs all the glorious excess. Think tulle, feathers, shimmer! You will radiate a dazzling magic! You'll look like a real-life unicorn!

So, let me be the first to say: if you’re in Twickenham on a Tuesday and you find yourself feeling sassy, I suggest you hit up Gloria’s “Unicorn and Tutu” Cafe. Get ready to grab your unicorn-tutu, indulge in pink glitter cupcakes and join the “Swan Lake” flash mob!

Tutu time! And remember: #tututuesday!

Until next week darlings!
