Pink Tutu Vienna: Blog Post #31 - Vienna, December 6th, 1995

Bonjour, mon petit choux! Welcome back to Pink Tutu Vienna! I'm so excited to be back with you this week, bursting with the memories of my time in Vienna, a city that simply makes my tutu twirl. You see, Vienna is the embodiment of a certain elegance and charm, a delicate sprinkle of glitter, and, let's face it, a splash of pink!

As you all know, I’m a huge fan of anything pink, tutus, and everything ballet, so when the opportunity arose to spend a few days in Vienna, I literally did a pirouette of joy! And this trip was definitely about the big picture. I was ready to soak up the history, explore the gorgeous architecture, discover Vienna's fashion scene and - of course - take in as much ballet as possible!

Journey to Vienna: A Dash of Romance

I always find train journeys a source of endless inspiration. Watching the scenery change as you journey through rolling countryside and charming towns gives you a real feeling for the landscape and culture. I settled back with a good book (ballet biographies are my current favourite, did I tell you I adore the history of the tutu? The origins, the transformations! Oh, they’re just fascinating!), sipped my hot chocolate, and enjoyed the smooth ride. I even had a quick conversation with a charming old gentleman who was reading a book of Shakespearean poetry. It seems he, too, found poetry and dance to be deeply intertwined - and he's not wrong, is he?

Once I arrived in Vienna, a coachman awaited me, the perfect start to this grand and elegant adventure. The journey to the centre was like stepping back in time - the streets bustling with carriages and ornate horse-drawn sleighs. My inner ballerina wanted to leap out and take part! Oh, the romanticism of Vienna is intoxicating!

Pink Palace Adventures - Imperial Glamour

After settling into my little pink-hued apartment – I found the perfect pink, feathered duvet for the occasion – it was time to explore. The main square, with its grand buildings, statues, and street entertainers, captivated me right away. The whole city is truly captivating. Imagine a combination of baroque architecture and an abundance of music. I mean, it was like walking through a music-filled painting.

Naturally, a trip to the Schonbrunn Palace was essential. The beautiful pink and white exterior made my heart leap, but the interior stole my breath away. Those glorious golden rooms and exquisite chandeliers, those beautifully manicured gardens…I found myself wanting to put on a ballet performance in the Grand Hall, the very scene where Mozart himself performed. Just imagine! The music and the dance would combine for an extraordinary show!

A Tutu Twirling Through Viennese Streets

Vienna is a city built for walking. Every turn seemed to lead to a new marvel: from the Vienna State Opera House, the heart of ballet in the city, to the captivating architecture of the Kunsthistorisches Museum, to the lively, cobblestone squares that echo with the laughter and chatter of the Viennese locals. There was an incredible energy and vibrancy. And don’t even get me started on the shops. There is an abundance of beautiful things to purchase – I almost wished I'd packed an extra suitcase for the shopping haul!

Ballet Bonanza: Vienna's Ballet Delights

I wouldn’t be true to myself if I didn't spend time at the Vienna State Opera House, of course! I caught a magnificent performance of Swan Lake, and let me tell you, my heart did a proper arabesque. The beauty and emotion, the breathtaking choreography and incredible talent, made it the perfect night for this ballet-obsessed traveller. And the best part? I finally spotted the perfect little pink tutu at the shop outside the Opera House – my inner fashionista squealed with joy!

My Pink Tutu Wardrobe in Vienna

My Vienna wardrobe consisted of my favourite pink outfits, of course! I packed all the necessities: flowing pink dresses perfect for evening waltzing at one of the numerous charming cafes, chic ballet shoes that let me navigate cobblestone streets with elegance, and of course, several tutus in shades from pale blush to fuchsia. You just never know when the opportunity to do a spontaneous twirl will arise!

The weather in Vienna was delightful for December - a crisp and sunny day followed by an icy evening, perfect for cosy evenings in, reflecting on the day. And how do I reflect? Of course, I take to my trusty notepad and pen, journaling about all the beautiful pink memories I make each day.

From Ballerina to Blogger, Vienna's Inspirations

Vienna is full of inspirations! From the graceful architecture to the charming little cafes, from the delicious Austrian food (Viennese coffee is a must!) to the bustling squares. The city has an energy that's all its own. The pink-tinted sunsets, the magnificent museums… everything in Vienna, even the very air, seems to whisper stories and spark inspiration. I could sit here for hours and write about all the beautiful experiences and fascinating details!

But, alas, I must leave you for now. There's another delicious treat waiting at the famous Sacher café - the famous Sacher Torte - my treat after a morning of ballet history at the Hofburg Palace! And the adventures in Vienna are far from over!

Keep an eye out for the next blog post! Until then, let your imagination dance, twirl, and embrace all the beautiful possibilities the world has to offer. Until next time, chérie!

Love,
Emma
