Vienna, Darling! Post 282: Waltz of Whimsy in a City of Dreams

Well, darlings, I'm back in Vienna! After a whirlwind trip through the charming countryside, I'm finally back in this magical city. And what a treat it is! For those of you who don't know, Vienna is simply my favourite city on the whole wide world. It's a symphony of beauty, culture, and elegance, a place that practically breathes ballet. You just can't help but feel like a prima ballerina waltzing through its cobblestone streets, can you?

This week, my Pink Tutu adventures have taken me on a journey of pure bliss. It all started with a stunning performance by the Vienna State Opera. Imagine, a performance of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake! You'd have thought the whole opera house would take flight! The orchestra was absolutely breathtaking, the dancing was a masterpiece, and I, well, I sat in the audience, a vision of pink perfection in a cloud of tulle.

I had my pink tutu on, naturally. And I wasn't the only one, I spotted at least four other Pink Tutu enthusiasts, looking fabulous! It really does bring me such joy to see the Tutu Movement blossoming all over the world, even in places like Vienna where they certainly know how to dress up for the theatre!

Following the performance, I had the chance to explore the magnificent Palais Garnier, the Vienna State Opera’s home. Oh my, it was like stepping into a fairytale! Gold glints from every corner, chandeliers glittering like a million stars, and, oh, those grand velvet curtains! Just thinking about it makes me want to twirl and dance with delight!

Speaking of twirling and dancing, have you heard about the wonderful Ballet Workshop taking place next week at the Volkstheater Wien? I’m positively thrilled! This workshop is going to be an absolute gem. Imagine learning from some of the best ballet instructors in the city, while wearing, you guessed it, a pink tutu! Now that’s a day in Vienna worth living!

Vienna truly embraces ballet in all its glory! The city itself seems to waltz through the centuries, from the beautiful, ornate architecture to the breathtaking Vienna State Ballet, the home of international superstars.

This trip wouldn't be complete without exploring the city’s breathtaking squares, and what a treasure trove of delight I stumbled upon! Did you know that the Imperial Palace was a real-life fairy tale? I even caught a glimpse of the famous Hofburg, where the legendary Empress Sisi once roamed. It really felt like I'd stepped back in time! And, just when I thought I couldn't possibly love this city more, I happened upon the beautiful Schönbrunn Palace, with its gardens blooming with summer colour, and oh my goodness, the Imperial Carriage Museum! It was the perfect opportunity for some picture-perfect shots with my pink tutu. Just imagine, me, in a sea of delicate pink, standing beside these majestic carriages, all of history wrapped up in their beauty.

Now, the Viennese people! What a delightful lot! They are all so incredibly kind and friendly. Even their dogs wear pink! Well, okay, not literally, but their dogs do wear charming, little scarves, so it’s a very close cousin. I must say, the sheer number of adorable doggies on this trip was truly a gift from the heavens. They absolutely stole the show and brought smiles to everyone's faces!

And don’t even get me started on the coffee! I don’t know what they put in it, but I could have lived off of the aromatic Viennese coffee alone. The cafe culture in Vienna is simply sublime. I recommend a "Wiener Melange" for those of you venturing to this magical city, but try not to spill it on your tutu!

Before I forget, I did a spot of shopping of course! Who could possibly resist the temptations of Viennese fashion! I picked up some stunning tulle scarves, adorned with delicate silver detailing, at a hidden little boutique near St. Stephen’s Cathedral. And speaking of the cathedral, don’t miss out on the Vienna Philharmonic concert! I’m absolutely kicking myself that I missed it this trip! So many incredible musicians performing together. You can feel the passion and energy thrumming throughout the whole building! I will have to be sure and get tickets for the next concert in Vienna!

I could truly write a novel on this enchanting city! Each and every corner held a little gem, a little secret to uncover, a little magic to discover. And, of course, it wasn't just the city itself, it was the people I met! Such a mix of kind and genuine individuals. One lady even offered to let me take pictures of her little dachshund with my pink tutu, just because she said she loved my colourful look! And that's what makes Vienna so special - the warmth, the smiles, and the kindness in everyone's heart. It's a city that's truly inspiring, just like a beautiful dance performance, and for that, I'm forever grateful.

For those of you planning a trip to Vienna, remember, a Pink Tutu is a must! You don't have to wear it all the time, but at least for one glorious moment, twirl your way through this spectacular city with a pink, cloud-like tutu wrapped around you, just like a ballerina in a fairytale! You'll thank me later.

Until next week darlings!

Pink Tutu Tips for Vienna:

  • Dress to impress! Don't be afraid to experiment with a touch of glamour. A statement dress paired with a sparkling brooch can make you feel like royalty.
  • Visit a bakery. Indulge in a sweet Viennese pastry and a steaming cup of coffee. They’re delicious!
  • Take a horse and carriage ride. Vienna is just begging for you to explore it like the royals did, and a ride through the park is a surefire way to do just that!
