Pink Tutu Vienna: A Waltz in the City of Dreams! (Post #283)

Hello darlings! It's Emma, your resident Pink Tutu aficionado, and I'm writing to you from the heart of Vienna, Austria! This city is absolutely magical, a whirlwind of waltz music, grand palaces, and breathtaking architecture - and I'm having a ball! 🩰

This week's adventure is brought to you by my love of the Viennese Waltz, and a certain upcoming performance at the Vienna State Opera that I just had to see. I wouldn't be a true ballerina without a love for classical ballet, would I? Speaking of, if you've never seen a ballet performance live, let me tell you - it's an entirely different experience. You're right there, enveloped in the music and movement, feeling the emotion flow through your veins. Truly breathtaking!

Now, you might be thinking, "How does Emma fund all this fabulous travel, you ask? Well, darling, it's a combination of a good bit of careful budgeting (always the best way to stay afloat!), the support of my loving family (bless their hearts, they never cease to be amazed by my antics!), and my trusty ballet performances. It's hard work, yes, but incredibly rewarding to be able to follow my passion and share it with you lovely people! 💖

Speaking of sharing, I simply couldn't visit Vienna without paying homage to its beloved "Wiener Walzer", the waltz that makes Vienna so special. Oh, the history behind this dance is absolutely fascinating! Did you know the Viennese waltz originally wasn't a couple's dance, but danced by a single man? Fascinating, right? Now, picture this: you're in a grand ballroom, twirling and swaying to the enchanting music, a sea of beautifully dressed ladies and gentlemen in shimmering gowns and top hats. This waltz, this music, transports you to another time, another world! 🕰️

Now, you know how much I love a good tutu, right? So imagine my delight when I found myself surrounded by exquisite, intricate, perfectly pink tutus at the Vienna State Opera's costume shop! I simply couldn't resist adding a touch of my signature pink to my Viennese wardrobe! 💖🩰 Of course, a waltz would never be complete without a fabulous outfit, so I ventured to the Graben, Vienna's most chic shopping street, for some absolutely fabulous finds. Did I find a stunning new pink scarf to accent my latest ballet outfit? Oh yes, I did! 🥰

But this city isn't just about fancy dresses and waltz music! There's so much history and culture to explore, so much beauty to soak in!

Did You Know?

This date, 4th October, 2000, is significant for us ballerinas in a very special way - it was the date of the famous Royal Ballet Gala celebrating the 90th birthday of none other than the legendary dancer Rudolf Nureyev! Talk about inspiration! 💪

And of course, a trip to Vienna would not be complete without visiting the Vienna State Opera. It's truly one of the most iconic opera houses in the world, known for its amazing acoustics and world-class performances.

Fun Fact:

Did you know the Vienna State Opera's ceiling is adorned with a stunning, sparkling chandelier weighing in at 3 tons?! That's 3,000kg of twinkling light! Now that's what I call dazzling! ✨

However, let me tell you a secret, Vienna is truly a city where every street feels like a stage, and every corner hides a story waiting to be discovered. We saw the Vienna Opera, but it's not all waltzes and high society! Just last week I went on a wonderful tour through the city, starting in the historical heart at St. Stephen's Cathedral with its beautiful stained glass windows, then venturing through the picturesque Old Town, the home of the Habsburg Dynasty, passing charming cafés and antique shops. ☕️

From there, we climbed the Vienna Ring Road, past grand monuments and bustling markets. There was an antique shop filled with exquisite gowns and jewellery that had me feeling like a true princess from a bygone era! 👑 The Ring Road also takes you past Schönbrunn Palace, the summer residence of the Habsburg dynasty. It’s like stepping into a fairytale, with manicured gardens and stunning architecture. Just be prepared for lots of walking!

Of course, a visit to Vienna wouldn’t be complete without some delicious food! We took a traditional Viennese coffee and strudel at a beautiful, historical café on the Ring Road, enjoying the vibrant street life, the people passing by and the enchanting sounds of this grand city. ☕

And of course, let's not forget the horses. Vienna has a special place in its heart for these noble creatures. From the famous Lipizzaner stallions at the Spanish Riding School to the beautiful carriage horses that trot gracefully through the streets, you just can't help but fall in love with their elegance! 🐎

What I've learnt this week:

  • Pink can work with anything, darling! From majestic palaces to cobbled streets, this colour always makes a statement.
  • Waltzing is more than a dance, it’s a feeling! A sense of grace, joy, and effortless elegance.
  • Vienna is truly a city of dreams. From the fairytale-like Schönbrunn Palace to the magnificent Vienna State Opera, it's impossible not to feel transported to another world!

So, my lovely readers, what are your dreams? What are your ambitions? This is just a small taste of Vienna, a city that inspires us to follow our dreams and chase our ambitions, to live life with passion and grace! It's also a reminder that a pink tutu can truly brighten up any situation, no matter how grand or ordinary!

Until next Wednesday, stay beautiful, stay bold, and don't forget your pink tutu! 💖

Emma xoxo
