Pink Tutu Vienna: Post 299 - The Waltz of the Whimsical, a Whirlwind of Vienna!

Guten Morgen, meine lieben Tutu-Twirlers!

The Wednesday waltz is calling! I'm back from a whirlwind trip to Vienna, Austria, and my heart is still filled with the magic of the waltzing city. If you're a lover of beautiful architecture, intricate pastries, and, of course, exquisite ballet, then Vienna needs to be on your must-visit list!

This week's adventure started with a very civilised, early morning train ride from the Derbyshire Dales. I bundled up in my favourite dusky pink coat, the softest cashmere I could find, topped with a magnificent pink fur scarf - one of the grand bargains I discovered in the Portobello Market back in November. Let's be honest, nothing says "sophisticated travelling" quite like a well-coordinated fur scarf! I settled in with my copy of “Tutus Throughout Time”, a charming tome about the evolution of the tutu - you’d be surprised at its fascinating history! Did you know they weren't always just for ballerinas? Imagine the shock if your local church vicar decided to wear a tutu!

Vienna welcomed me with open arms, or rather, the rhythmic clicks of horses’ hooves as I rode in a luxurious carriage, the sound of the horse's breaths, like a quiet waltz in the crisp air, a melody that I could have listened to all day. It felt like I was stepping back into a classic fairytale. As soon as I stepped into the Grand Hotel, its lobby was alive with the enchanting sound of Viennese waltzes, filling the air with romance and old-world charm.

Naturally, I needed a pink outfit for the occasion, and so, after a quick pit stop in the hotel room (don’t tell you’re mum!), I sashayed into the grandest shopping streets in Vienna, and you know me - no journey is complete without a new tutu!

Vienna was overflowing with a delicious blend of traditional fashion and contemporary flair. I fell in love with a chic, pale pink tulle skirt, perfect for a Viennese Waltz! You can bet it found a new home in my travel trunk. A magnificent, cerise-coloured hat with delicate netting also followed me back to Derbyshire. This trip truly had me going gaga for colour!

Speaking of the ballet, oh the ballet! I found myself captivated by the Vienna State Opera. Their stage was bursting with artistic beauty and the ballet dancers were exquisite, dancing like angels amongst a cloud of beautiful colours and graceful lines. It was almost magical, and I even snagged a signed programme! The highlight of the week? *A visit to the famed Vienna State Ballet, dancing a breathtaking performance of “Swan Lake". *

Vienna has the perfect combination of modern chic and historical charm. We strolled through the picturesque squares, mesmerised by the Baroque buildings and ornate architecture. A must-do? Indulge in Viennese cuisine! Every bite was a symphony of flavours and the Viennese apple strudel - oh, the sheer deliciousness of that creation. And let’s not forget the legendary coffee, perfectly rich and velvety, served with exquisite pastries. It’s no surprise Vienna is a global coffee capital!

I may be a pink-tutu-loving ballet enthusiast, but Vienna is for everyone! I highly recommend it, my dears. The cobblestone streets, charming cafes, and captivating music – it’s a recipe for a truly magical experience! And for a city with such elegance and refined artistry, well, how could I leave without donning a few pink outfits?

The best thing? This beautiful, elegant city, nestled among the valleys, mountains, and lakes of Austria, is only a hop, skip, and jump from my home in Derbyshire! Who knows when I will next make my way back, but you can bet your bottom tulle that Vienna and I will be dancing together again soon!

Until next week, darlings!

Yours in tulle,

Emma
