Pink Tutu Vienna: Post 391 - A Waltz Through the Viennese Whirlwind!
Wednesday 30th October, 2002
Good morning, lovelies! The crisp autumn air of Vienna is positively tingling with excitement as I prepare to share another week of magical adventures from my latest tutu-tastic trip. This week, we're taking a whirl through the heart of Vienna, a city brimming with history, charm, and enough culture to make your head spin (much like a pirouette, I might add!)
As you know, Vienna has always been synonymous with waltz music, majestic palaces, and a timeless elegance that truly captured my imagination ever since I first donned my first ever tutu in Derbyshire. It's no surprise that I've found myself captivated by this enchanting city. My little pink tutu has been making a splash amongst the locals, inspiring smiles and even the occasional "Bravo!" from the dapper gentlemen on the street.
Train travel: I began my journey on a gleaming train from the heart of Derbyshire, the landscape whizzing past as my mind wandered to the historical figures who have graced Vienna's streets: Mozart, Beethoven, Strauss… the mere mention of their names evokes a sense of artistic grandeur that echoes in every cobbled corner of this city. I find it immensely fulfilling to think that, centuries apart, we all share a love of beauty and expression.
Ballet in Vienna
Let’s talk ballet, darling! You wouldn't believe the sheer variety of ballet performances available here. The Vienna State Opera is breathtakingly ornate, a majestic venue worthy of a princess in a fairytale. This week, I saw a stunning production of 'The Nutcracker', a timeless favourite, performed with unparalleled finesse. Every plié, every arabesque was like a jewel glistening in the spotlight. You can bet your bottom dollar that I took copious notes for my ballet class later in the week, brimming with new techniques and a renewed sense of purpose!
Speaking of class, the Vienna Ballet School has a renowned reputation, so I had to visit, of course. The little ones with their fluffy tutus, the young adults, their expressions a perfect balance of concentration and passion… It's heart-warming to see the next generation of dancers taking their first steps in such a vibrant ballet tradition.
Shopping in Vienna
What trip to Vienna would be complete without indulging in some fabulous shopping? This week, I fell head over heels for a stunning pink tulle skirt at the quaint "Vienna Boutique". The delicate pink perfectly matched my new sequined top, which is absolutely ideal for a visit to the magnificent Hofburg Palace, where I intend to recreate my own Imperial waltz, complete with swirling tulle and twirling steps!
Of course, a day of shopping is not complete without indulging in Vienna's famous cakes and pastries! My favourite is the Sachertorte - rich, chocolatey and utterly delightful, much like my Pink Tutu journey itself!
Riding a Carriage
This week's biggest adventure was definitely my carriage ride through the Prater park! With its charming, Victorian-era carousel, vintage rides, and open spaces, Prater truly embodies Vienna's delightful charm. As we clip-clopped along the path, the crisp autumn air swirled around me, carrying with it the sounds of children's laughter and the soft tinkling of horse bells. A symphony of autumn! I truly felt like I was stepping back in time, a vision of femininity amidst Vienna's glorious past.
Sharing my Passion
My trip to Vienna has ignited a renewed passion for travel, fashion, and most of all, spreading the love for the colour pink and, of course, the power of tutus! My ultimate aim, darling, is to inspire you all to embrace a little bit of whimsy and magic in your everyday lives. Who knows, maybe someday the whole world will be twirling in pink tutus!
This week's Tip: When exploring a new city, be sure to wear comfortable shoes! The streets of Vienna are perfect for long walks and discovering hidden gems. And don't forget, a pink tutu adds a touch of whimsy to any adventure!
Until next week, my lovelies!
Love,
Emma xx
