Vienna Whirlwind! (Post #446)

Helloooo my darling Tutu Twirlers! It's your favourite pink-tutu-clad blogger, Emma, here, reporting live from the magical city of Vienna, Austria! It's Wednesday, the 19th of November, 2003, and this week's blog is a total fairytale. I've been hopping about the cobbled streets like a sugar plum fairy, soaking up the stunning architecture and the dreamy atmosphere.

This whole trip is thanks to a lovely ballet performance at the Schönbrunn Palace, the most magnificent building I've ever seen, I swear! I got to twirl across their breathtaking stage, a true ballerina dream.

Before the show, we explored the sprawling palace gardens, which were bursting with fall foliage. Just picture it: I’m there, pirouette after pirouette amongst the crimson, orange, and golden leaves, with the Imperial Palace towering in the background, feeling like I'd stepped right out of a fairytale.

Oh! And speaking of fairytales, Vienna is just full of them! Everywhere I look, I find myself transported back in time. It’s like a film set from some glorious period drama, only much more alive and exciting. The music that pours out of every window - it's just glorious!

I can't wait to tell you all about it! Let’s get swirling…

Vienna, A Whirl of Pink Perfection:

First things first, I knew I had to hit up the most glamorous shopping spots in Vienna! Now, if you're picturing me waltzing through high-street shops with a tulle tutu flapping behind me, you're halfway there. But there’s a certain 'je ne sais quoi' to Viennese fashion, don't you know?

Let me paint you a picture. Imagine grand department stores with sparkling chandeliers, floor-to-ceiling windows filled with elegant dresses, and enough velvet, silk, and lace to make any tutu lover's head spin! I ended up with a gorgeous dusky pink scarf (because a girl's never got too many, right?), a stunning vintage handbag, and, oh, some darling little pink ballet slippers (so perfect for twirling around Vienna!)

Speaking of Vienna's stunning streets, I took a horse-drawn carriage ride - just picture me, twirling in my dusty rose tutu as the gentle trot of the horses and the clip-clop of their hooves fill the air. It’s simply romantic, especially in the softly falling twilight.

From Tutu to Tango:

While I'm here, I simply couldn’t resist visiting the Vienna State Opera! I watched a mesmerising tango performance - it was so full of passion and fire, it just about burned my tutu off! I learned a thing or two about how to really inject some Latin flair into my ballet moves. My next performance? Definitely featuring some salsa moves. Oh, wouldn't that be divine!

Vienna: A Dance Through History

You can't visit Vienna without delving into its rich ballet history. You see, Vienna’s always been a hub for classical ballet - it's home to one of the world’s oldest ballet schools and the legendary Vienna State Opera! Just strolling through the old theatre districts, imagining all those fabulous dancers, those glamorous premieres, it's pure magic.

While I was exploring the historical ballet spots, I discovered some truly captivating things about the history of ballet. You know, ballet wasn’t just graceful moves in beautiful costumes, it had real purpose – it was often used to showcase political events or royal celebrations! How fascinating! And speaking of tutus, guess what? They weren’t just pretty things to wear, they symbolized social class! Now, you might be thinking that it was aristocrats twirling in tulle - nope! It was all the way back in the days of courtly dances, the fanciest tutu you could find on the dancefloor belonged to the king’s courtiers. How wild, huh?

More Than Just Ballet

Beyond the ballet world, Vienna also boasts a wealth of amazing attractions. We went to Schönbrunn Palace's fabulous zoo (believe me, even with the swans and the majestic peacocks, the giraffes and elephants just didn't have the same elegant grace as our ballerina friends in the ballet), we climbed the soaring Vienna Wheel for the best city view, and indulged in some of the most delectable cakes in the world!

Tip To My Fellow Tutu Twirlers: if you ever find yourself in Vienna, you simply HAVE to visit Cafe Sacher for the famous Sacher Torte! It's a decadent chocolate masterpiece, just like Vienna itself. The cake, like Vienna, is steeped in tradition. It was invented over 150 years ago, and the recipe remains secret - a true Vienna treasure!

A Tutu Wish for All My Readers

Now, before I sign off, let me tell you, as a girl who's travelled far and wide, I truly believe Vienna's something special. From its captivating architecture to its vibrant culture, and of course, its ballet heritage – this city truly knows how to make you feel like you’re dancing on a cloud.

Oh, and I have to tell you – one of the greatest joys about this journey has been seeing the people embrace their own playful side. You wouldn't believe how many Viennese women I saw out and about in darling dresses and vibrant colours – they had that sparkle in their eyes that reminded me of those fairy tales I was talking about. Maybe I’ve finally started my Tutu Crusade. Now I’m spreading the word! Just imagine: everyone in a pink tutu… Now, that would be a beautiful, whimsical sight, wouldn’t it?

**Join me next week as I continue my magical tour of Vienna – I'll be exploring even more historical sites and experiencing the city's nightlife (which I hear is absolutely amazing!). Until next time, stay beautiful and twirl happily!
