Vienna Waltz - Post #475 - Wednesday 9th June 2004

Darling dears! It's Wednesday and time for your weekly Pink Tutu fix from your favourite tutu-tastic traveller, Emma, right here in the heart of Vienna!

Vienna, oh Vienna! This city is like a dream come true for a ballet enthusiast like me! It's brimming with history, with grand buildings whispering of waltz dances and waltzing emperors, and buzzing with cultural delights like nowhere else I've ever seen. This week has been absolutely splendid, filled with ballet and fashion and delicious Viennese delights (I cannot recommend enough the apple strudel! Divine!)

I arrived in Vienna yesterday afternoon, having travelled from Budapest by train (of course, a sleeper!) The scenery was truly breathtaking, swirling landscapes passing by in a kaleidoscope of green and gold. I even got a quick chat with a delightful Hungarian family who gave me tips on where to find the most delicious langos in Vienna (heavenly fried dough - a must-try for anyone here!)

Vienna itself feels like a giant waltzing party! Everything seems to have a rhythm to it, from the clatter of horses' hooves on the cobblestones to the soft lilting melodies drifting out of every doorway. It's incredibly charming and oh-so-romantic, just the perfect place for a little afternoon stroll in my latest pink tutu creation.

Speaking of which, I must show you my new find from the fabulous Emporium here in Vienna! This beauty is a pale pink tulle tutu, delicately embellished with the tiniest rosebuds you ever did see! It twirls so gracefully, it's practically alive. And you just know, it's already planning its own waltz.

After my arrival, I took myself straight to the most glamorous hotel in the city for some much-needed rest and a luxurious soak in the bath (nothing like a bubbly bath in a five-star to ease travel weary muscles!) This morning, I indulged in a decadent Viennese breakfast, a feast of fluffy pastries, strong coffee and luscious berries, all whilst wearing my beautiful new pale pink tutu of course. After all, why wouldn't you start your day like a princess!

This afternoon I am venturing to the Vienna State Opera! Oh darling, I am beyond excited! The famous "The Sleeping Beauty" is on this week, and you can just imagine the spectacular costumes, the vibrant sets, and the amazing dancing! I simply cannot wait.

Tomorrow is a day of ballet class - it's my way to always stay nimble for those lovely evening ballet shows and, of course, to find some amazing ballet inspired looks for my next Pink Tutu post!

One of the most enchanting things about Vienna, besides its graceful architecture and magical waltzing sounds, is its incredible appreciation for art and history. I have plans to explore the Kunsthistorisches Museum later in the week to see the famous collection of Renaissance masterpieces, and later on I want to take a horse and carriage ride around the Old City to take it all in. Just think, how much more lovely would a trip like this be if every passenger on the carriage wore a beautiful, shimmering pink tutu, like mine?! I just think, the world would be a happier, more elegant, and definitely a much more pink-tastic place!

On Saturday, I plan on catching a live ballet performance at the Vienna State Ballet! The highlight of every trip, of course, is the spectacle, the energy, and the incredible dancers performing stories right before my eyes. This week's show, I hear, features the classic "Giselle" which I just have to see.

I also plan to go shopping on Mariahilfer Strasse, a grand shopping boulevard that just screams 'Pink Tutu' shopping opportunity! This city has some fabulous vintage boutiques tucked away in the heart of Vienna's vibrant Old Town - I expect I will be making the most of them.

As for my ballet-related activities - well, you just know I've been keeping busy with my dance routines, my practice, and a few classes with a very lovely local Vienna ballet teacher, (more about that in a later blog post!). Dancing every day in my Pink Tutu is my favourite part of travelling. The more time I spend on my dance skills and learning ballet techniques the more opportunities I can gain to support my ballet passions. And that includes, of course, travelling!

Vienna has just the right combination of classic elegance and modern style for the most perfect ballet-inspired looks. My new favourite pink tutu is really feeling the 'Vienna Waltz' vibe this week. And you just know I will be waltzing my way through this beautiful city - my new tutu will be twirling in delight along with me, capturing all the magic of this stunningly graceful city. Stay tuned to Pink-tutu.com for all the highlights and my new favourite Pink Tutu finds. Until next week, dearest darlings, you can catch me taking in all of the Viennese sights with my Pink Tutu held high!

Don't forget, the ballet performance of "The Sleeping Beauty" begins in just a couple of hours and, my dears, you just know it's going to be spectacular!

Lots of love,

Emma xxx
