Pink Tutu Vienna - Post #635 - 4th July 2007 - Vienna, Vienna, Vienna!

Dearest tutu-lovers!

How are you all doing? Another week has zoomed by and I’m sitting here in my Vienna apartment, just a hop, skip, and jump from the Schönbrunn Palace (which is, let’s be honest, just stunning, with all those amazing pinks and whites - swoon) typing away at my laptop, with a hot cuppa and a giant pink cupcake (more on the cupcake later).

It’s been a whirl-wind of a few days in Vienna. Let’s just say it’s not hard to fall in love with this city! My new tutu collection arrived (I couldn’t resist adding some lilac to the mix, oh my! I know, I know, not exactly pink, but it’s still SO elegant!) and my trip to the local fabric shop had me all aflutter. Think sequins, silk, satin... gasp It was almost enough to make me ditch my planned shopping spree at the Vienna Opera House's fabulous boutique - almost, mind you. Because let’s be real, every tutu-lover needs a stunning, perfectly-structured, handcrafted tulle tutu for a night at the opera!

Speaking of the opera, last night was magical. The Vienna State Opera was, as ever, the epitome of opulence and elegance. You know those nights when the entire city feels alive with music, art, and drama? Yes, it was one of those nights. The production of "La Traviata" was sublime, with breathtaking costumes, gorgeous set design and the most talented opera singers. Even my seat, tucked away in one of the elegant balconies, felt like I was right on stage!

Now, Vienna's artistic life is not confined to just the opera. Today I treated myself to a wander through the Museum of Art History - a little bit of Mozart's musical life, some incredible renaissance pieces and, of course a visit to the fashion and costume exhibit! I mean, come on, tutus are basically just the beginning of history’s greatest fashion statements, wouldn’t you say? They just transcend time! And who knew, they even have some spectacular historical ballgowns on display!

I've gotta say, Vienna is practically made for dancing, whether it’s waltzing across the grand ballrooms (even if I'm just pretending!) or exploring the gorgeous squares while listening to street musicians. They just make me want to pirouette in the sunshine! Seriously, Vienna’s got this certain je ne sais quoi that just screams "pink tutu" (if you ask me, anyway, though maybe that’s just my biased ballerina brain…).

But my tutu adventure doesn't end there. Tomorrow I'm heading to the Prater - Vienna's sprawling park with a history that goes way back (fun fact - they had a famous ballerina named "The Pink Tutu" back in the day! My fellow tutu-enthusiasts were just as excited about a perfect pink tutu back then, too!). And what’s more, this time, it’s a true vintage park, complete with a glorious giant Ferris Wheel (talk about the ultimate "Pink Tutu Viewpoint")!

Here’s my quick Viennese Tutu Top 5 for the week

  1. The Opera House Boutique: Oh the costumes! Oh the fabrics! swoon And of course, a pink tutu (it wouldn’t be Vienna without a proper Pink Tutu selection).

  2. Museum of Art History: Seriously, how else am I supposed to write my upcoming post on "Pink Tutu and History"?!

  3. Schönbrunn Palace: Did I mention it was stunning? And perfect for pink tutu photos? squeal

  4. Vienna State Opera: "La Traviata" Every moment was exquisite, like a fairytale - and perfect inspiration for a little Viennese ballerina.

  5. The Prater: I just have a feeling this vintage amusement park is going to be one for the tutu-books (or, in my case, the tutu-blogs!)
