Vienna Calling! A Pink Tutu Tour of the Waltz Capital 🩰 💖
Hello my darling tututistas!
This week, we're waltzing our way through the beautiful city of Vienna! It's been a dream of mine to visit this haven of music and majesty, and the chance to see the famous Vienna State Opera House, the palace of Schönbrunn and finally wear my pink tutu on the grand boulevard, Ringstraße - well, it simply had to be done!
As usual, this week’s journey has been an exciting, whirlwind adventure and I'm so excited to share all the fabulous pink-tastic happenings with you.
A Whirlwind Waltz into ViennaLet's face it, arriving in Vienna by train, clad in a beautiful blush-pink tutu, always makes a statement! People look and smile, I get offered a helping hand getting my luggage out and onto the platform - It's just the most delightful welcome, and one that perfectly matches this beautiful city.
Vienna feels like a dream straight out of a waltz-infused fairy tale. Golden hues bathed the buildings, and elegant cafes with flower boxes overflowing with geraniums lined the cobbled streets. Everywhere I went, music echoed through the air. It's like the city itself is humming a happy tune!
Now, I am a massive fan of ballet. From tutus to history, from ballet technique to ballets, you know the drill. I always research wherever I travel, so I could indulge in as much as possible! Turns out, Vienna is a hotbed for ballet! You can't go anywhere without encountering some beautiful dancers. I even got chatting with a ballerina on the tram - we bonded over the joys of pliés and the importance of pointe shoes (mine are the most glorious fuchsia!).
Ballet, Beautiful Boulevards and a Pink Tutu DelightMy first stop, naturally, was the Vienna State Opera House. My jaw literally dropped when I saw it - this iconic building is truly a masterpiece! And guess what, it wasn't just the architecture! It was ballet! I saw an absolutely breathtaking performance of Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake. The costumes were like a feast for the eyes - with shimmering layers and stunning feathered wings. And those dancers, oh my! The elegance, the grace, the passion - it was a sheer spectacle of pure balletic joy.
But let's be real, darling, there's more to life than ballet (gasp, I know, shock horror!) And Vienna, believe it or not, had a lot more to offer. This week’s must-haves for your inner princess:
- Shop till you drop: Forget the waltzing waltz! You need a Viennese waltz - the type where you pick up a little black dress with delicate embroidery for the bargain price of €50 or find that perfect vintage coat in dusty rose pink (you can tell me all about the shopping trip later).
- Cafe Culture: Afternoon tea with homemade pastries is practically a national sport here, darlings! Imagine sitting on a charming café terrace sipping your latte, savouring delicious apfelstrudel, while listening to a charming melody. Total delight!
- Horse and Carriage Adventures: There's something so romantic about a horse-drawn carriage ride, especially when it’s with a gentle pink-clad ballerina at the reins (no really, the carriage driver couldn’t help but ask for my ‘tutu opinion’ and let me carefully guide the magnificent stallion… in the most gorgeous sunshine).
- History on High: Climbing up to the Belvedere Palace for an amazing panorama was another highlight - a real ‘I'm on top of the world moment’, if ever I saw one! Imagine those stunning city views, captured on my pink phone camera and instantly shared with you all on the internet, how exciting!
From the dancing waltz melodies filling the air to the historical elegance of the city, it really did feel like a magical whirlwind. A little piece of Vienna will forever be nestled in my heart. Now, darling, it’s not only Vienna that holds this tutu’s affections, I need to find a few little outfits, as we waltz on to Italy, oh darling, how fabulous!
Until next week! Don’t forget to share this blog with all your tutu-loving friends. Stay sassy and keep on twirling!
