Post 708: Vienna Waltz in Pink
Guten Tag, darlings! It's Emma here, writing to you from the heart of Vienna! It's Wednesday, the day I always post, and I'm sipping a lovely cup of Viennese coffee while the sounds of Strauss waltz softly through the café. Ah, Vienna. How utterly romantic!
I arrived last Saturday, travelling on the Orient Express from Budapest - what a journey! I was so excited to see the landscape roll by from the window - such lush green fields, charming villages, and the rolling hills of Austria. Of course, I travelled in full pink tutu regalia. I feel that one should always be ready to perform - even on a train journey! The passengers were a little bewildered at first, but as the carriage filled with the lilting tunes I'd chosen on my iPod, the smiles grew wider. You know what they say: "When in doubt, tutus out!"
Vienna has been an absolute dream, darling. As you know, I adore all things history, fashion and, of course, ballet, and Vienna overflows with all three! It's the city where the waltz was born, the birthplace of Schönbrunn Palace, and home to the world-famous Vienna State Opera.
A Fashionable Sojourn in Vienna
My first stop after arriving, naturally, was the opulent flagship store of my favourite Austrian brand, "Lilly". Their latest collection features a delicate pastel pink, lace-trimmed tutu perfect for an elegant evening out! I have a feeling it's going to make a stunning appearance at the Vienna State Opera later this week. Oh, and I mustn't forget to mention their adorable little clutch bags that are decorated with exquisite ballet-themed embroidery - talk about the perfect accessory for any true ballerina!
Next, I made my way to the lovely little boutique just off the Karntner Straße. It was chock-full of gorgeous pink cashmere scarves, sparkling pink jewelled hair combs, and silk gloves in a shade I call "bubblegum blossom". It's like stepping into a fairytale, my dears! And wouldn't you know it, the boutique owner even agreed to let me borrow her stunning vintage 1920s tutu, all tulle and silk in the softest shade of pink. I'll be sure to share a photo later.
The Waltz in the State Opera House
My time in Vienna wouldn't be complete without an evening at the Vienna State Opera, of course! The very first night I arrived, I was lucky enough to secure a ticket for a production of "The Nutcracker." I am simply mesmerised by the architecture of this majestic building - it's like a magnificent fairytale palace. Inside, it's equally impressive - the plush velvet seating, the crystal chandeliers twinkling, the swirling, dramatic patterns of the carpets… It all just felt utterly magical!
The performance itself was breathtaking. The ballerinas danced with such grace and precision. It's almost as if they're gliding effortlessly through the air! And the costumes, my dears, the costumes! It's almost hard to believe that they haven't stepped straight out of a Tchaikovsky dream!
A Journey Through Time
To indulge my love for all things history, I ventured into the Hofburg Palace, once home to the Habsburg Dynasty. The interiors are mind-bogglingly opulent! Can you imagine what it would be like to have that many crystal chandeliers and gilded furniture in your home?! I couldn't help but imagine the royal ballerinas practicing in their exquisitely decorated ballrooms - their silken slippers tap, tap, tapping on the ornate parquet floors, the tinkling sounds of a grand piano softly filling the air. Ah, history is so romantic!
And Then There's The Food…
But what would any trip be without a delicious food adventure?! Vienna has an absolutely mouth-watering array of culinary delights to offer. Yesterday, I had the most exquisite strudel, its flaky pastry filled with apples and raisins and dusted with cinnamon sugar. It was a sweet symphony! Then, of course, there was the delectable coffee, Viennese coffee is famed worldwide! It's not just any coffee - it's an art form!
Travel in Style: A Horse-Drawn Carriage Ride
Today, I had a whimsical ride through the city's cobbled streets in a horse-drawn carriage. Imagine! Me, in my pink tutu, being whisked through the beautiful streets, with the horses hooves clip-clopping on the stones, and the sounds of Viennese music drifting through the air! I couldn't help but think that a pink tutu was just the perfect garment for such a grand adventure! Vienna is the perfect blend of old-world elegance and modern charm, and it really makes you feel like you've stepped into a bygone era.
Inspiring Fashion - Spreading the Pink Tutu Love
Throughout this entire journey, I’ve been noticing the fantastic style here in Vienna! The fashion scene here is really buzzing. I’ve seen everything from bold prints to sleek, minimalist outfits. But, you know me, my dear readers, I'm drawn to the pretty pastels, especially shades of pink.
I believe every woman can embrace their inner ballerina and let their personalities shine! After all, tutus are not just for dance classes or theatrical performances! A pink tutu is a statement. It's about celebrating femininity, feeling fabulous, and just plain having fun!
So, I urge you to embrace your inner ballerina and dance your way through the week. Whether you're heading to work, taking a stroll in the park, or enjoying a fancy evening out, don't be afraid to add a touch of pink sparkle to your outfit. Who knows, you might just inspire someone else to step into their own tutu!
That's it for this week, darlings. I’m off to find more enchanting shops and cafes and plan a delicious, pink-themed Viennese afternoon tea! But I promise, I'll be back next Wednesday with another delightful adventure. Until then, stay fabulous!
Bisous, Emma.
