Pink Tutu Vienna: Post #717 - A Viennese Waltz of Pink

Hello my lovely tututistas! It's Wednesday again, and that means it's time for a new Pink Tutu Vienna blog post! I'm back from a whirlwind week in the Austrian capital, a city overflowing with charm, culture, andā€¦well, more importantlyā€¦ pink! It really is a colour loverā€™s paradise. Imagine, if you will, a world of pink gingerbread houses, blush-toned palaces, and a touch of fuchsia lining every charming cobblestone street. And let's not forget the exquisite ballet performances - did I tell you I saw "Swan Lake" here? Honestly, it was a performance fit for a fairytale!

Riding in Style

Getting here was a dream. The train ride from Derbyshire was so idyllic ā€“ green hills rolling by, little villages like picture postcards. Iā€™ve always loved train journeys; there's something so romantic about being whisked away by the rhythmic rumble of the tracks, with only the scent of crisp air and the passing scenery to keep me company. I felt very much the glamorous, travelling ballerina!

Once in Vienna, however, I ditched the train for something rather more stately. Iā€™m not one to brag, but my new dress for my performance at the Vienna State Opera last night truly called for a carriage - and oh, what a carriage it was! We talked about romance? Picture this: the glow of gaslights against the cobbled streets, the clopping of hooves against the pavement, the scent of the night, and me - yes, me! - in a billowing pink tulle dress fit for a princess! (Donā€™t worry, my trusty pink tutu is never far away - it was just tucked beneath, for the final performance).

A Whirlwind of Waltz and Culture

This city is bursting with history - Mozart, Schubert, Strauss... you know, the composers with the fancy names. Everywhere I go, thereā€™s a grand opera house, a Baroque church, or a grand palace waiting to be explored! Of course, no visit to Vienna would be complete without indulging in some exquisite Austrian pastry. The Viennese Sachertorte was a masterpiece! Letā€™s just say, I may have slightly overindulgedā€¦ a little pink, a little sweet, a little dangerous - just how I like it!

Ballet in Vienna

Oh, how Iā€™ve been loving the ballet here! It feels like every corner I turn is filled with the grace of ballerinas and the soaring melodies of classic ballet. I managed to snag tickets to see "Swan Lake" - a timeless ballet. And let me tell you, this performance blew me away. The dancers were incredible. They spun, leapt, and danced with a grace and skill I've only dreamed of achieving. Seeing it here, with the grand architecture of the Vienna State Opera House framing it all, felt like a magical fairytale come to life.

I even took a couple of ballet classes here, just to try and capture some of the magic of the Vienna State Opera. The instructor was wonderful and patient - it wasn't always easy to follow his directions in my pink tutu, but he was quite encouraging and reminded me: "Pink isnā€™t a colour, it's an attitude!'" - something I wholeheartedly agree with.

Pink and Shopping

Speaking of "pink attitude" - Vienna just screams for pink! It's everywhere I look - from the adorable pink cafes and patisseries, to the antique shops overflowing with pink-tinted china, and the elegant boutiques showcasing pink ball gowns. You could easily spend an entire week exploring Vienna just through the colour of pink!

This being me, of course, I made a point of checking out the shops here. Letā€™s just say my suitcase has gained a few extra pink items since arriving! One shop called ā€œBlush & Twirlā€ is going on my favourite shopping destinations list for sure. A symphony of pink, from pink parasols to ballerina-inspired shoes, I managed to scoop up some truly enchanting new additions to my wardrobe.

Fashion Forward in Vienna

Viennese women are as elegant as the city itself. Everywhere you look, theyā€™re dressed in such sophistication - classic tailoring, effortless chic, a little splash of romance. I love their approach to dressing. Itā€™s about a feeling of graceful elegance - not loud, but impactful, and just a touch mischievous. I can see why their love for waltzes and beautiful ball gowns is so pronounced.

And Speaking of Tutus...

Of course, a visit to Vienna wouldn't be complete without visiting a few of the museums dedicated to dance history. They had some truly extraordinary vintage tutus! I just know that if pink were the colour of choice back in the day, those tutus would be pinker than my dreams. And with that thought, I'm off on another little Parisian adventure. Iā€™ll leave you with thisā€¦ if Vienna makes me feel like I'm waltzing in a fairytale, I have a feeling Paris is about to knock me off my feet!

Keep your tutus close, my darlings!

Until next Wednesday,

Emma
