Pink Tutu Vienna: Ballet Bliss in the City of Music (Post #719)

Wednesday 11th February, 2009

Hello lovelies! It's Emma, your favourite pink tutu-clad adventurer, and I'm back with another blog post straight from the heart of Vienna! This week's been a whirlwind of waltz music, beautiful buildings, and yes, even more tutus! It wouldn't be a Pink Tutu Vienna blog without a good dose of ballet, would it?

The sun is shining today, and Vienna is looking absolutely stunning. I spent the morning wandering through the charming cobbled streets of the city centre, enjoying the elegant architecture and the warm, welcoming atmosphere. You can't help but feel inspired in Vienna, surrounded by such stunning historical buildings. It's no surprise that the city boasts one of the finest opera houses in the world, the Vienna State Opera!

But before I tell you about my latest ballet adventures, let's talk about tutus, because darling, that's what life's all about, right? I found the most fabulous pink tutu in a vintage shop on the Mariahilfer Strasse yesterday! It's a soft blush pink, perfect for adding a touch of sweetness to any outfit. I couldn't resist snapping it up - it's just begging to be twirled in! You can see a photo of it in my latest Instagram post, if you'd like to check it out. (Don't forget to give me a follow at @pinktutuemma - I'm always happy to hear from you lovely lot!)

I know you're probably thinking: "Emma, haven't you already bought a million tutus?" But darlings, tutus are like shoes โ€“ you can never have too many! I just can't help myself. They're the most fabulous invention ever, aren't they? I love everything about them: the twirling, the flouncy layers, the sheer grace and elegance.

Okay, back to ballet! Last night, I went to see a performance of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake at the Vienna State Opera. Now, Swan Lake is pretty much a ballet classic, but this production was simply breathtaking. The music was incredible, of course, but the dancers were truly phenomenal. Their movements were so fluid and expressive, and I was mesmerized by the graceful choreography. It was definitely an evening to remember, and I left the theatre feeling inspired and filled with a deep appreciation for the art form.

Speaking of ballet, did you know that Vienna is known for its long and rich history of ballet? From its Baroque beginnings to its present-day innovations, the city has always been a home to talented dancers and innovative choreographers. One of my favourite discoveries during my exploration of Viennese ballet history was the history of the Vienna State Ballet. Founded in 1752, it is one of the oldest and most renowned ballet companies in the world. Today, it boasts an incredibly diverse and talented roster of dancers from across the globe, and their performances are absolutely spellbinding.

My love for ballet also extends beyond performances! This week I had the pleasure of attending a class at the Vienna Ballet Academy, and let me tell you, it was no easy feat! The instructors were demanding but encouraging, and the other students were incredibly talented. It was inspiring to see everyone so passionate about their craft, and it reminded me why I fell in love with ballet in the first place.

Now, on to the fun part of my week โ€“ fashion! I can't resist exploring Vienna's fabulous shopping scene. I managed to squeeze in a bit of shopping amidst all the ballet, and you know I couldn't leave without finding some treasures! My favourite find? A pair of beautiful, blush pink ballerina flats from a vintage boutique. They're the perfect combination of comfort and chic, and they'll go with just about everything in my wardrobe.

Before I go, I have a confession to make: I love travelling by train. I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but there's something incredibly romantic about the rhythmic chugging of the engine, the rolling countryside scenery, and the general sense of adventure. Plus, I find the journey itself can be quite inspirational. There's nothing quite like watching the world go by through the train window. And, let's face it, it gives me a great opportunity to admire my fabulous tutu outfits! The best part? The train journeys let me travel to more ballet performances around the world. Who needs aeroplanes?

This weekend Iโ€™m heading to Salzburg to visit the Salzburg Festival, which, if you didn't know, is one of the most renowned summer festivals in Europe! There'll be opera, theatre, concerts and even a performance by the Salzburg Ballet! My Pink Tutu adventure is about to become even more glamorous. Stay tuned, darlings, for a fabulous update next week!

Don't forget to share your own tutu adventures in the comments below! I love hearing from you and seeing your fabulous outfits.

Much love, Emma

P.S. You can catch me performing this Saturday at the Vienna State Opera! I'm dancing in a guest performance of The Nutcracker - it'll be a treat for all you ballet lovers out there! Come and say hello if you're in town!
