Pink Tutu Vienna: Post Number 725: A Waltz Through Vienna in a Pink Tutu!

Wednesday 25th March 2009

Hello, darlings! It’s Emma here, back from a whirlwind tour of Vienna and ready to tell you all about it! As you know, I’m a firm believer that every day is a chance to express yourself, and what better way to celebrate the culture of Vienna than with a pink tutu, darling? Yes, even amidst the Baroque splendour and the grandeur of this historic city, a touch of pink tulle was the perfect touch.

Train Tracks and Travel

My journey began in Derbyshire, with a cheery farewell wave to my parents (they’re still getting used to my penchant for pink tutus!). The train ride from London was a delight; I felt like I was travelling through time with all the green rolling hills and quaint villages. A few hours and a cup of steaming hot tea later, and I was whisked through the glittering cityscape of Vienna! The train station itself was a beautiful Art Nouveau building - absolutely gorgeous!

Viennese Whispers: Ballet, Beauty and a Bite

As soon as I arrived in Vienna, I was swept away by its beauty and charm. The architecture, oh my! Imagine stately buildings in a beautiful shade of cream with golden details, cobblestone streets winding their way through bustling markets and charming cafes - it was like stepping into a fairy tale! And of course, the coffee houses are a must-visit for any discerning traveller. Vienna’s got coffee houses oozing old world charm where you can while away an afternoon sipping creamy coffee and indulging in the rich history of the place. A tip, darlings, be sure to order the ‘Melange’, Vienna's favourite. Just try and resist its alluring frothy perfection!

But this wouldn't be a Pink Tutu Vienna adventure without ballet! On this visit, I was lucky enough to catch a performance of "Giselle" at the Vienna State Opera House - absolutely divine! The dancers were superb, the music enchanting, and the costumes were stunning. You wouldn't believe the beautiful tulle they used in Giselle's ghostly scene - my kind of dramatic, ethereal style!

Naturally, I spent the next morning practicing my own graceful moves at a lovely dance studio in the heart of the city. I'll be honest, darlings, their technique is different to my usual Derbyshire style! So, I tried to absorb all the Viennese nuances - a little more fluidity and poise, and definitely some extra elegance, oh la la!

Shopping, Sights, and Sensational Snacks

Oh, the shops in Vienna are an absolute dream! You know how I love my vintage finds and this city was a treasure trove. I spent hours browsing antique shops and vintage boutiques for fabulous outfits for my shows, picking up beautiful brooches, statement earrings and that perfect pair of vintage gloves for my next performance. The shops here also have the most delightful fabrics, my love of tutus got quite out of hand, imagine velvet the colour of Vienna's chocolate, with the faintest whisper of rose, heavenly! And just to be extra, they even have lace trim in every colour imaginable!

Speaking of food, oh darlings, I found some divine restaurants serving authentic Austrian cuisine. My favourite was a small, family-run place near the Opera House with the most scrumptious goulash and delicious dumplings. The Viennese dessert strudel was, well, quite frankly, it made me want to pirouette with glee.

Vienna is so easy to explore! There’s the Ringstrasse, a boulevard full of gorgeous buildings, a royal palace and even a fantastic museum full of historical ballet costumes - imagine the colours! My dear, the fashion has come full circle, for they too were obsessed with frills and the perfect tutu, especially for the waltzes! There’s also the famous Belvedere Palace, and oh, the view from the hill overlooking Vienna, stunning! I sat on a bench with my book (of course it was about ballerinas) and just watched the city, such a dream come true!

Horse-Drawn Elegance and A Pink Tutu Waltz

Of course, no visit to Vienna would be complete without a ride in a traditional horse-drawn carriage. Imagine yourself surrounded by the grandeur of the city with its lovely pastel buildings and fountains cascading gently around the squares. You feel as though you've been swept back in time, gliding past palaces and ancient landmarks.

As dusk settled, and the city shimmered in a magical golden light, I put on my most enchanting pink tutu and went for a waltz in the Volksgarten, a park right in the heart of the city. Oh darling, the Volksgarten was absolutely breathtaking - it's a romantic mix of rolling green lawns, vibrant flowers and stately trees. And yes, I took a few spins in front of the elegant, Baroque buildings! Just a tiny bit of Pink Tutu Magic, darling, in this beautiful city!

Viennese Enchantments and the Pink Tutu Power

There’s a reason Vienna is known as the “City of Music”, it is the birthplace of many great composers. The music in this city flows like water through the cobbled streets and seeps into every corner!

But what made my trip to Vienna so special? The energy, darling! The excitement! You know, that infectious vibe that Vienna is famous for. It’s impossible to visit here without feeling a bit of that energy in yourself.

And, yes, the pink tutus played a big part, darlings! It's not about me being obsessed, (because as I have explained before, you cannot be too obsessed with a good pink tutu), it's about spreading the joy and feeling empowered by the tulle!

After a week of ballet, shopping, and Viennese delights, it was time to leave, but as I boarded the train, a sweet sadness filled me - I didn't want to leave! The city, the atmosphere, the energy, the pink tutu power - I know I’ll be back soon, darling!

As always, darling, thank you for following my Pink Tutu adventures! Keep sharing your stories, and maybe even try wearing your own pink tutu! Let's make this world a a little bit brighter and more whimsical together!

Until next Wednesday!

Emma xxx
