Vienna Waltz, Pink Tutu Dreams! - Post #742
Oh my darlings, Vienna! This truly is the city of dreams, especially for a pink-loving ballerina like myself.
I arrived last Saturday after a charming train journey, which of course involved a splendidly pink and frilly outfit. Travelling by train is simply delightful - there’s something about the rhythmic clickety-clack of the wheels on the tracks that gets my feet itching to twirl. My travelling ensemble was a confection of hot pink chiffon and tulle, the ultimate travel outfit!
Once I reached the heart of Vienna, I checked into a beautiful little hotel with the most stunning, blush-pink facade. They even offered me a free ballet barre in my room! The service here is top-notch.
But of course, the main event wasn’t my hotel (as wonderful as it was) – no, it was the reason for my journey to this glorious city - the Vienna State Opera House!
My Wednesday evenings here are sacred. Every Wednesday, I find myself transported into a world of wonder. From the magnificent grandeur of the building itself, with its glittering chandeliers and plush red velvet seats, to the enchanting performance unfolding before me, each Wednesday is an utter delight.
And, as you know, I simply couldn’t resist a visit to their costume department, which houses the most exquisite collection of historical ballet costumes! I’m talking hand-stitched bodices, meticulously embroidered tutus, and feather boas that would make even the most jaded feather fancier weep with joy!
You may wonder what inspired this journey to the heart of opera? Well, my lovelies, it all began with a captivating documentary I saw on the Vienna State Opera’s history. I was mesmerised by the stories of the dancers, the choreographers, and the sheer artistry that permeated every corner of the house. I just had to experience this magic for myself!
Speaking of magic, this week’s performance was truly spellbinding! We were treated to a breathtaking rendition of Swan Lake, with an absolutely flawless ballerina portraying the Swan Queen. The delicate pirouettes, the effortless extensions, the pure grace of it all – it had me swooning with delight! I could almost feel the elegant glide of her satin pointe shoes and her soft, feathery tutus skimming the stage. Of course, I made sure my own tulle confection was a touch of pink, perfectly complementing the atmosphere of the evening.
And, because no trip to Vienna is complete without a good dose of waltzing, I've spent my afternoons enjoying the gentle rhythm of Vienna's waltz music at a local coffeehouse, surrounded by elegantly dressed Viennese ladies and gentlemen. The sound of their conversations blending with the music, all while savouring delicious pastries and aromatic coffee…Pure bliss!
I’ve been exploring the city’s vibrant street scenes as well, trying to capture the true spirit of Vienna in my trusty pink camera. And, naturally, my journey has not been complete without a touch of retail therapy! Vienna’s shopping streets have me entranced. Every shop window is a glittering paradise of delicate fabrics, charming antiques, and decadent chocolates! But it was in a charming little vintage shop tucked away in a cobbled street that I truly fell in love. There, hidden amongst the moth-eaten gloves and embroidered scarves, I found a stunning antique tutu. It's a delicate, almost ghostly, shade of pale pink and has been meticulously handcrafted with the most exquisite lace and embroidery.
Speaking of my new antique treasure, the hunt for the perfect pink tutu for my wardrobe is an ongoing mission. Vienna, you have definitely spoilt me rotten! I just can’t wait to take my pink tutus for a whirl in Vienna’s parks and gardens - you just can’t beat the romantic charm of the Stadtpark with its lovely flower beds.
And of course, no visit to Vienna would be complete without experiencing the beauty of their horse-drawn carriages! I simply adore their gentle trot through the city, the horses clopping along with an enchanting rhythm. It’s as though you’re travelling through a picture book, perfectly embodying the graceful elegance of Vienna.
My travels aren't just about beautiful cities and captivating shows, you see. They’re about discovering new worlds, finding inspiration in unexpected places, and ultimately sharing those experiences with all of you! I can't help but feel that Vienna is already a source of immense inspiration. From the architectural marvels of its palaces to the graceful movements of its ballet dancers, this city sings with the language of artistry and beauty. And that, my lovelies, is precisely why it's captivating my heart and inspiring my spirit.
Of course, my journey doesn't end here. There are countless other pink-tutu-worthy destinations out there! From the shimmering ballet stages of Paris to the rolling countryside of my native Derbyshire, the world is my dance floor. I'll keep you all posted, darling!
Now, tell me, are you dreaming of Vienna? Have you ever visited the city of waltz and wonder? Do tell! And as always, be sure to keep the pink tutu spirit alive, and never stop dancing!
With love,
Emma
