Pink Tutu Vienna: Blog Post #751

Wednesday, 23rd September 2009

Guten Morgen, my lovely tutu-twirling friends!

It's Emma here, fresh from a whirlwind of Viennese delights and ready to share it all with you. Today, I'm whisking you away to the heart of Austria's charming capital, a city where waltz melodies drift through cobblestone streets and the aroma of Sachertorte lingers in the air.

As you know, my darling readers, a trip to Vienna isn't complete without a dose of ballet! Last night, I was swept away to the majestic Vienna State Opera for a performance of Swan Lake. Oh, the beauty of Tchaikovsky's music, the graceful movements of the corps de ballet, and the ethereal elegance of the principal ballerina! It was like stepping into a dream.

And of course, what would a ballet outing be without the perfect outfit? My choice for the evening was a delicate pink tulle tutu with layers and layers of gossamer softness. I paired it with a classic black velvet jacket, the contrast of black and pink adding a touch of theatrical flair. My shoes, a pair of dainty pink ballet slippers with shimmering crystal embellishments, twirled with me as I took in the grandeur of the opera house.

But first, let's rewind a little.

My journey to Vienna began in a charming village in Derbyshire, England. You'd be surprised at the number of places you can reach by train these days! The carriage was so comfortable, perfect for catching up on my latest novel (I'm completely smitten with Jane Austen's Persuasion, oh, such romantic heartbreak!). A train journey always feels like an adventure to me.

Of course, no trip is complete without a visit to Vienna's iconic Schönbrunn Palace. What a feast for the eyes! It was built in the 17th century for the Hapsburg Emperor Leopold I and boasts over 1400 rooms. Just imagine! All those grand halls to twirl through.

And who can forget the delicious pastries and cakes! Vienna is a haven for sweet treats, and I sampled all the classics – Sachertorte, Apfelstrudel, and even a few sugary little éclairs for good measure.

Vienna has truly captured my heart with its elegant charm. It feels like stepping into a storybook, full of rich history and culture. Today, I'm taking a stroll through the Stadtpark, Vienna's most beautiful park. Imagine an emerald green oasis, dotted with fountains and statues, nestled amidst bustling streets. It's simply magical.

Speaking of magical, let's talk tutus! The Vienna State Opera is a hotbed of tutu history. In fact, did you know that Vienna was home to the famous "Marie Taglioni," a trailblazer of ballet who revolutionised the way we view ballet, forever cementing the tutu in ballet history? She was all about fluidity, grace, and ethereal elegance, truly embodying the beauty of the dance. Vienna has such an enchanting history, both within its own culture and with regards to the ballet world!

But Vienna isn't all grand architecture and ballet history. I've found some little boutiques that are pure sartorial bliss. Think luxurious fabrics, hand-stitched designs, and a touch of whimsy that reflects Vienna's fairytale charm. I’m always on the hunt for new accessories, you know. You just can't have too many glittering headbands, sparkly hair clips, or delicate beaded necklaces to complete your tutu look!

My Vienna adventure will continue for another day, and I'm eager to share every little detail with you. In the meantime, remember to live life in a pink tutu – because you never know where your adventures will take you! Don't forget to leave a comment and tell me what your favourite Vienna memories are, or maybe even what you’re planning for your own tutu adventure!

Until next Wednesday, stay twirling!

Love, Emma

P.S. Have a fantastic week filled with tutu-licious fun! Remember, my dears, life is too short to be anything but happy. Always twirl with joy and spread your own personal touch of sunshine.
