Pink Tutu Vienna: Post #818 – A Viennese Waltz Through Time

Well, hello there, darling! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another whirl through Vienna with yours truly, Emma from Pink Tutu! My travels continue to whisk me around the world in a cloud of pink tulle, and this week, I'm diving headfirst into the magical world of Viennese waltzes, glittering ball gowns, and a history that feels as rich as the Emperor's chocolate cake!

I’ve been feeling rather whimsical, especially after this morning's ballet class at the Volksoper. Vienna, as you know, is steeped in ballet history – think Strauss, Mozart, and a symphony of spinning ballerinas. And nothing sets the mood quite like the crisp, fresh Vienna air nipping at your nose as you glide across the studio floor in your favourite pink tutu.

Today’s class was all about the waltz. Not just any waltz, mind you, but the Viennese Waltz – that iconic, graceful, and gloriously swirling dance that made its debut back in the 18th century, and became the epitome of waltzing. Did you know it’s even considered the national dance of Austria? And why not, with all that romance and history packed into every twirl?

Oh, and the Volksoper, it's a real gem! This incredible opera house, tucked away on Währinger Straße, has been bringing magic to the stage since the late 19th century. Just imagining the colourful costumes and breathtaking choreography from past productions makes my heart beat a little faster! The building itself is a marvel of Neo-Renaissance architecture, with its grand facade and ornate interior.

It's no surprise that my afternoon took a very Vienna turn. A stroll through the Schönbrunn Palace was a must! It’s almost impossible to imagine this magnificent palace without thinking of all the waltzing, the sparkling gowns, and the rich, dramatic history that swirls around every corner. The gardens are stunning too – with the grand Orangery, a sprawling maze, and charming cafes. One can only dream of spending a sunny afternoon in the gardens, dressed in a stunning pink tulle dress, twirling through the sunshine.

Of course, no trip to Vienna is complete without some shopping! So, off I went, armed with my Pink Tutu Visa card, and ready to take on the city’s boutiques. This week, my finds included:

  • A dazzling, blush-pink sequinned bag from Manner Schokolade, perfect for a night at the opera! You know, one of those elegant little bags that looks like it's designed for waltzing around the most exclusive salons in Vienna.
  • A silk scarf, in the most divine pale lavender colour, from Aida Austria, a charming boutique with a delightful array of fashion treasures! Perfect for a bit of Parisian chic with a dash of Viennese flair.

As the day ended, I found myself at Cafe Central, a historical landmark right in the heart of the city. Vienna's coffee culture is famous, of course! And what better way to soak up the last rays of sunshine and reflect on a truly spectacular day than with a cup of aromatic Viennese coffee, overlooking the city’s buzzing life? It's all about that blend of elegance and warmth that makes Vienna feel so uniquely enchanting.

You know, I truly believe that every woman should have a signature tutu in her wardrobe. And who knows, maybe one day, I'll get every woman in Vienna twirling in a pink tutu. Wouldn’t that be a sight! Just imagine: A cloud of pink tulle dancing through the streets, echoing the city's love for elegance and grace. It's an image that would melt even the coldest heart!

Well, darlings, that's a wrap on this week's Pink Tutu Vienna post. Until next Wednesday, may your steps be light, your twirls effortless, and your life full of pink tutus. See you soon!

Before I let you go, a little note from yours truly. If you’re lucky enough to be planning a trip to Vienna, you simply have to visit the Vienna State Opera – the magnificent jewel of Vienna's opera scene. This stunning theatre, built back in 1869, boasts opulent interiors, world-class productions, and, of course, its famous waltz.

Also, don’t forget to pop by Schnitzelwirt, the renowned traditional Viennese restaurant, for an unforgettable dining experience. It’s the perfect place to savour a real taste of Vienna while enjoying the city's charming ambiance.

Until next week, darlings!
