Vienna, Oh Vienna! My Tutu-tastic Adventures Continue! (Post #858)

Wednesday, 12th October, 2011

Guten Tag, my lovely Tutu Tribe! Itā€™s Emma, your resident pink-tutu-clad blogger, back from another fabulous adventure. Today, Iā€™m writing to you from the beautiful city of Vienna, Austria, a city steeped in history, culture, and yes, you guessed it - plenty of gorgeous tutus!

This week has been a whirl of excitement, a ballet-themed whirlwind that left my heart soaring higher than a BalanƧoire pirouette. It all started on Saturday when I boarded the Orient Express (yes, you heard me right!) and whisked myself away to this glorious city. The train journey was a treat in itself. It felt like stepping back in time with its plush velvet seats, gleaming mahogany panels and charming staff dressed in vintage livery. I couldnā€™t resist the opportunity to pose for a few photos, my pink tutu swirling around me like a whimsical cloud as I glided through the carriage.

Vienna has this magical energy - a mix of old-world charm and modern vibrancy that leaves you completely spellbound. As I wandered through the cobbled streets, I was captivated by the grand buildings, the scent of fresh-baked pastries and the delightful clatter of horse-drawn carriages. There's a romance in the air, a sense of elegance that reminds me of the tutus of yore.

On Sunday, I indulged my inner shopaholic at the opulent Naschmarkt, a market bursting with delicious cheeses, exotic fruits, and handmade souvenirs. My Tutu Tribe knows that my love for shopping knows no bounds, and here, I felt like I had landed in a dreamland of fashion treasures. I found the most incredible silk scarf adorned with swirling paisley designs, a colour reminiscent of my favourite ballerina tutu.

Then it was time for the real highlight of my trip: The Vienna State Opera! My heart thumped with excitement as I stepped into this iconic theatre, its gilded interiors shimmering with opulence. I knew I had to choose the perfect outfit for this occasion. So, of course, it was a pink tutu - a gloriously full-skirted creation, layered with tulle and adorned with delicate lace trim, fit for a fairytale princess. I paired it with a sleek black top and my trusty pair of pointe shoes for a touch of sassy elegance.

The performance of ā€œGiselleā€ was absolutely breathtaking. I was spellbound by the dancersā€™ effortless grace and the exquisite choreography. I couldnā€™t help but twirl in my seat, imagining myself leaping across the stage in that very tutu. It was as if the magic of the story had wrapped itself around me, whisking me away to a land of swirling tutus and passionate love.

But my tutu-tastic adventures didnā€™t end there. Monday found me exploring the enchanting Hofburg Palace. It's said to be home to a royal collection of ballet shoes, so of course, I just had to check them out. While I couldn't get a sneak peek at those precious shoes, I found myself wandering through grand halls filled with gilded portraits, exquisite furniture, and fascinating displays that took me back to the heart of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. I could almost imagine the tutus whirling around the dance halls and the strains of waltzes floating on the air.

Later that day, I had the opportunity to take a carriage ride through the beautiful Stadtpark, which feels like a scene out of a film - lined with towering trees, manicured lawns, and sculptures depicting historical figures. It's hard not to feel romantic in this setting, especially as you listen to the gentle clip-clop of the horse's hooves. I have to admit, a horse-drawn carriage and a pink tutu make quite the glamorous duo!

Today, I've been spending my time visiting the Museum of Art History, a stunning building that showcases incredible masterpieces from across the ages. From Egyptian sarcophagi to sculptures of Greek Gods, the collection is a real treat for the senses. Iā€™m finding that thereā€™s a real elegance and sophistication in Vienna, which reminds me of the tutus of the Victorian era.

However, there's much more to Vienna than just museums and operas. Iā€™ve discovered an incredible street scene where artists and musicians add their own vibrant energy to the city's rhythm. Last night, I wandered into a little back street, and stumbled upon a charming, dimly lit bar where a group of street musicians were playing beautifully melodic tunes on their instruments. A group of friends, one with a bright yellow tutu and another with a fluffy pink one, were having a wonderful time twirling and twirling, laughing and laughing. It made my heart smile!

Oh, the world of tutus! You never know what adventure lies just around the corner. I find it simply inspiring! Vienna, oh Vienna, youā€™ve filled my heart with joy, elegance, and more than a dash of tutu-tastic wonder!

As Iā€™m leaving you tonight, remember my little Tutu Tribe: Life is meant to be danced in - so put on your pink tutus, twirl like thereā€™s no tomorrow, and embrace the world with all your heart and grace.

Until next Wednesday,

Your Tutu-loving Emma.
