Pink Tutu Vienna: Post 861 - A Waltz through Vienna's Whimsy (2 November 2011)

Guten Tag, my lovely readers!

It's Wednesday again, and that means a brand new Pink Tutu adventure awaits! Today, I'm writing from the heart of Vienna, Austria, where the waltz reigns supreme, and my trusty pink tutu has been twirling with me through cobbled streets and elegant ballrooms. This city is absolutely dripping with history and charm – from its grand imperial palaces to its lively, bustling cafes, there’s something for every princess.

I travelled here by train, naturally. It’s always a pleasure to relax with a book and watch the world go by – just like in one of those old-fashioned romances! As my carriage snaked through the countryside, I couldn’t help but imagine the romantic journeys of the royals and noble ladies who once frequented these tracks. I was even lucky enough to have a fellow passenger who seemed to be from another time – an elderly gentleman with a distinguished moustache, dressed to the nines in a dapper suit. He looked so dashing and debonair – almost as though he was waltzing with time itself!

The journey from Derbyshire, my humble home, took about a day and a night, allowing plenty of time for admiring the ever-changing scenery, doodling ballet routines in my travel journal, and practicing my elegant travelling manners (yes, there is such a thing!).

Upon arriving in Vienna, I was greeted by a sight that brought a sparkle to my eyes and a smile to my lips - a beautiful, majestic horse-drawn carriage. My dear reader, can you imagine? I felt like a princess stepping out of a fairytale, whisked away to a world of magic and elegance. As the handsome horses clopped their hooves along the streets, I reveled in the warmth and romance of the experience. Vienna was already proving to be every bit as dreamy as I’d imagined.

A World of Pink and Tutu in Vienna

But enough about the journey – let’s talk about Vienna itself, darling! There are so many things to do here, I barely know where to begin. I’ve spent my past few days indulging in all things ballet, naturally!

I started with a visit to the stunning Vienna State Opera. This grand building, with its magnificent architecture, is truly a testament to the enduring love for ballet and classical music. I even got a chance to sneak a peek backstage! It’s truly amazing to see the hustle and bustle behind the scenes, all the preparations that go into each performance. They truly are a masterpiece of art!

Of course, I had to see a ballet performance while I was there, and what better choice than a stunning rendition of Swan Lake? The costumes were exquisite – I counted no less than five tutus in various shades of white, ivory, and champagne. It was a real dream come true to see this beloved ballet performed with such passion and grace. I found myself mesmerised by the movements of the dancers, completely lost in their world of graceful artistry.

And who could resist a visit to the magnificent Schönbrunn Palace? Not this pink-tutu clad adventurer, that’s for sure! The palace is positively bursting with history and opulence, but I’m not going to spoil the surprise for you. Suffice it to say, my pink tutu was the perfect choice of attire for this magnificent palace, it practically demanded I be twirling around its beautiful grounds.

Of course, no visit to Vienna would be complete without a dose of exquisite fashion. Luckily, the city is brimming with charming boutiques and vintage stores, ready to satisfy any fashionista’s heart. I’ve already discovered several charming shops nestled in the hidden alleyways of the Old Town, bursting with beautiful dresses, shoes, and accessories that would make any fashion-conscious ballerina swoon!

Oh, and speaking of accessories… I finally found the perfect tiara for my pink tutu collection – a magnificent, silver tiara encrusted with sparkling gems, and topped with a single, elegant pink flower. I think you’ll agree, my dears, that this tiara is fit for a ballet princess!

My Pink Tutu Vienna Adventures - What's to Come

But my journey isn't over yet! Vienna still has so many treasures to reveal, from hidden cafés serving delectable pastries (yes, I’m making a point of sampling them all!), to romantic carriage rides through the city streets, and of course, more stunning ballet performances.

This evening, I’m going to the Vienna Ballet School, to see a ballet class in action. I simply must experience the passion and dedication firsthand!

I’ll be sharing my experience with you all next Wednesday. Stay tuned, darlings, as my Vienna adventures continue!

Until next week,

Emma
