Vienna Waltz: A Pink Tutu Adventure (Blog Post #939)

Wednesday, 1st May 2013

Guten Tag, darlings!

Vienna. The city of waltzes, schnitzel, and, of course, pink tutus! Yes, even this historic and majestic city couldn't resist the charm of a little pink tulle. This week, I've been twirling through the streets of Vienna, taking in the sights and sounds of this magnificent metropolis.

A Royal Affair

My adventure started with a trip to the Hofburg Palace, Vienna's imperial residence. I practically floated through the opulent halls, feeling like a princess in my fluffy pink tutu, which was perfectly complemented by a black velvet jacket and pearl necklace. The palace itself is a treasure trove of history, art, and opulent grandeur, filled with royal portraits, exquisite furniture, and sparkling chandeliers. But what truly caught my eye were the ballet costumes, carefully displayed in glass cases. It was a visual feast, a testament to the elegance and beauty of the art form that I hold so dear. I spent a good hour studying the craftsmanship, the intricate designs, and the evolution of the ballet costume from the elaborate skirts of the 17th century to the modern, streamlined forms we know and love.

Vienna State Opera: An Unforgettable Evening

Of course, no trip to Vienna is complete without a visit to the Vienna State Opera, one of the world's most famous opera houses. On Tuesday, I was fortunate enough to see "The Magic Flute", Mozart's enchanting opera. The production was stunning โ€“ the sets, costumes, and performances were all exceptional. I found myself completely immersed in the music and drama, feeling like a little girl lost in a fairytale world. And you can be sure that my pink tutu stole the show. (Okay, perhaps not quite literally, but I felt utterly fabulous, thank you very much!).

Taking to the Streets (in Style, of course!)

Between exploring palaces and attending opera, I've been busy taking in Vienna's vibrant atmosphere. Vienna is a city built for strolling. From the grand Ringstrasse lined with magnificent buildings, to the quaint cafes in the heart of the Innere Stadt, I've loved getting lost in the narrow streets, admiring the city's architectural beauty, and taking pictures, of course! It's always a treat to find a cafe with outdoor seating and settle down with a hot chocolate and a good book about ballet. And let's not forget about shopping!

I managed to squeeze in some time for shopping, where I found a gorgeous vintage pink dress in a tiny boutique tucked away in a hidden alley. It was a complete bargain, and will look perfectly with my pink tulle, naturally! And since you can't go to Vienna without having a taste of its famous cakes, I had to try Sachertorte, a chocolate masterpiece with apricot jam and whipped cream. Heavenly!

Onward to Salzburg!

As I write this, I'm eagerly anticipating my next adventure: Salzburg, the birthplace of Mozart and the setting for "The Sound of Music." Iโ€™m going to take a scenic train journey from Vienna to Salzburg, and then visit the city's iconic fortress, its picturesque streets, and its enchanting gardens.

So, my fellow tutu-lovers, stay tuned for my next adventure in Salzburg, where I'll be sure to find some more beautiful ballet history, stunning performances, and maybe even some more opportunities to rock my pink tutu!

And, as always, remember to spread the pink tutu love!

Love, Emma
