I’ve traded in the cobblestone streets of Derbyshire for the grand boulevards and fairytale castles of Austria. This week's adventure, like a delicate pirouette, will be a whirlwind of waltzes, Viennese pastries, and, of course, a whole lot of pink tutus!
It’s Wednesday, so you know what that means – it’s time for my weekly blog update, fresh from the heart of Europe! I’m posting from my little haven, a charming apartment tucked away in the heart of Vienna’s historic city centre. My window overlooks a cobbled courtyard where a street musician serenades the morning with an enchanting violin melody – pure magic!
Now, you know I’m a creature of habit – Wednesdays are dedicated to my online ramblings and a quick peek at the “Pink Tutu Vienna” weekly planner, which I meticulously design on my very own custom stationery, naturally. My motto? Every day is a chance to express yourself, and I do just that with my signature pink tutu, my trusty sketchpad, and, of course, a healthy dose of pink lip gloss.
This trip was actually sparked by an invitation to perform at the magnificent Vienna State Opera! Yes, dear readers, yours truly is gracing the stage with my signature pink tutu, and a solo performance of the Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker is a highlight! Imagine twirling under the golden chandeliers, with a sea of velvet seats and glittering gowns surrounding me. Absolutely dream-worthy! But before my grand performance, there’s so much to explore in Vienna!
I’ve been devouring delicious pastries at a little cafe near my apartment, where the Viennese locals chatter in rapid German, their words tumbling like snowflakes. My absolute favourite discovery? Sacher-Torte, a dark chocolate masterpiece that rivals any ballet in its perfection! You know me, my friends – nothing beats a good sweet treat, especially when paired with a cup of fragrant Viennese coffee, strong enough to make the entire city feel like one giant, beautifully choreographed ballet.
Of course, my Vienna adventures wouldn’t be complete without a shopping spree, would they? I found myself completely entranced by the glamorous boutiques on Graben Street, each a symphony of shimmering silks, decadent laces, and exquisite jewels. But, naturally, I was on the hunt for a pink-tutu worthy ensemble, a masterpiece worthy of Vienna's royal elegance. I think I've stumbled upon the perfect vintage pink brocade jacket - I paired it with my new pearl earrings, adding just a dash of Victorian glamour. Oh, I have to share this secret – they call Vienna the “City of Music” for a reason! While browsing, I discovered an independent designer specializing in pink, silk tutus. A little too fabulous for me to resist, it’s going to be the centrepiece of my ballet debut!
Let me take you back a little – I arrived here last Saturday by train, and the journey itself was an unforgettable experience. I indulged in a lavish breakfast with fluffy pastries and rich, dark coffee, just the way I like it. I traveled in my best vintage travelling outfit – think cream-colored wool jacket, black leather gloves and of course, my pink tutu (always a conversation starter, darling!) for just that extra touch of Parisian chic!
After a rather pleasant four-hour journey through rolling hills and charming towns, the train rolled into the Vienna Hauptbahnhof, a magnificent structure that seemed straight out of a ballet scene! There, waiting for me, was the most delightful carriage, pulled by a magnificent pair of white stallions. It transported me to my charming apartment – a small touch of fairytale elegance to start my Vienna adventure!
Speaking of fairy tales, you simply have to explore Schönbrunn Palace! With its glittering fountains, magnificent gardens, and sprawling royal apartments, it’s the stuff of dreams! The most beautiful feature was undoubtedly the Gloriette, a grand rotunda with panoramic views of the city. My heart nearly skipped a beat when I imagined all the royal waltzes that had once filled the air!
And speaking of music and waltzes, Vienna is overflowing with musical treasures! I spent an afternoon strolling through the streets, mesmerized by the soaring melody of a street violinist, each note swirling around me like a delicate twirl. You can't resist dancing along! In the evenings, the air is filled with the enchanting sounds of Strauss waltzes. It’s a city alive with the energy of classical music, and I, for one, am completely charmed!
Of course, every adventurer needs a little pampering, and what better way to do that than a day at the world-famous Therme Wien thermal spa? It's a symphony of relaxation! I treated myself to a luxurious bath and a massage, emerging rejuvenated and ready for my performance. I've already pre-ordered a stunning bouquet of pink peonies and hydrangeas to bring some joy to the performance space and help me to get in the mood. It's all about creating the perfect environment for the perfect ballet experience, and let me tell you – my dear readers – this tutu girl has everything under control!
