Vienna Calling! My Pink Tutu Adventures in the City of Waltz and Whirl
#PinkTutuVienna Post #1045 13th May 2015
Hello darlings! It's Wednesday, and you know what that means? Time for a new #PinkTutuVienna blog post! I'm writing to you from the glorious city of Vienna, a place that's stolen my heart and sprinkled it with Viennese coffee and Sachertorte. It's so utterly romantic! Think cobbled streets, grand buildings, elegant cafes, and music swirling in the air. Honestly, Vienna feels like a giant ballet set, with me twirling right through it in my newest pink tutu creation (more about that later!).
My journey here began with a ride on a charming, emerald-green train from beautiful Salzburg, where I'd been immersed in the Salzburg Festival. You just can't beat train travel, it's like stepping back in time, allowing me to soak in the countryside and let my imagination wander, dreaming up all the ballet performances I might witness.
Vienna, however, is not just about ballets – it’s about opera, classical music, and all things waltzing. You know I'm all for a good waltzing twirl. My pink tutu seems to attract an incredible amount of attention. I've been waltzing along the streets in it – you’ve got to do it to get into the Vienna spirit! I even saw a delightful, traditional waltz performance in front of the Opera House – what an absolutely fabulous way to kick off my time in this vibrant city.
Speaking of ballet, Vienna has an incredible dance history, with legends like Martha Graham and Rudolf Nureyev having graced its stages. Did you know that the first recorded performance of "Swan Lake" took place here in Vienna in 1877? This city is steeped in balletic history!
I, of course, made sure to visit the Vienna State Opera, which is absolutely breathtaking. A magnificent architectural wonder, it houses a majestic interior, the kind of place you could almost hear the music swirling in the air even when there’s no performance. And speaking of music, I visited the famous Vienna Philharmonic Hall, a venue steeped in history. Can you believe Mozart performed here? It's just so magical!
Shopping for Whimsical Wonders
Vienna, with its elegant boulevards and quaint shops, is a shopper’s paradise! I found a magnificent hat shop with extravagant feather plumes that would make any ballerina's heart skip a beat. I simply had to treat myself! It’s not easy finding pink feathers in Derbyshire, so it’s a must when I’m in a European city. It's going to make my tutu creations even more magnificent!
Dining Delights: Sachertorte and Viennese Coffee
No trip to Vienna is complete without a decadent slice of Sachertorte. Let me tell you, it was as good as the stories promise – rich chocolate, decadent apricot jam, and a perfect creamy whipped topping. I had to have mine alongside a perfectly brewed Viennese coffee. They make the coffee so special here!
A Bit of Horseplay!
Did you know Vienna is famous for its Lippizaner horses? I simply couldn't resist a visit to the Spanish Riding School, a stunning palace built for these incredible, elegant creatures. To see them perform is a truly unforgettable experience. Their movements are fluid and precise – it's almost like watching a grand ballet on four legs! It's almost enough to make me consider swapping tutus for saddle bags (almost!).
An Unforgettable Evening at the Opera
On Friday night, I went to see a production of "Don Giovanni" at the Vienna State Opera. I felt like I’d stepped back in time, with its ornate architecture and swirling costumes. The performance was exquisite, with a fantastic orchestra that sent chills down my spine. My pink tutu was certainly getting compliments tonight, as I felt incredibly glamorous – everyone loves pink in Vienna!
My Pink Tutu is a Conversation Starter
There’s something truly unique about Vienna, the people, the energy, the music… it’s like stepping into a fairy tale. I have to confess that my pink tutu is an incredible conversation starter, with locals and other tourists alike getting in the spirit and commenting on my ballerina style!
More About My Pink Tutu
This week's tutu creation is my absolute favourite – it's a dreamy blush pink with delicate tulle layers. I found it in a shop tucked away on a little cobblestone street in the heart of Vienna. This tutu is the perfect blend of elegance and whimsy. I’ve decorated it with an exquisite crown of blush pink silk roses – Vienna has a knack for beautiful roses. You know how much I adore accessorizing!
Vienna is like my ballet heaven. You see, a girl's got to love a little romance in her life, and a good splash of pink!
Keep twirling and keep it pink,
Emma
