Vienna Calling! (Post #1057)
Hello my gorgeous tutu-lovers!
It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another Pink Tutu Vienna blog post, direct from the heart of this beautiful city. And trust me, itâs been an absolute whirl, and I mean whirl in the most elegant, twirly kind of way!
My week in Vienna...
Itâs been quite a week. Last Wednesday, I left my little Derbyshire village and hopped on the train. Of course, my pink tutu made an appearance. I had so many smiles and admiring glances â makes all the pink tulle worthwhile! It was a lovely train ride, full of exciting plans for Vienna!
I arrived in Vienna late Thursday and, tired but not letting any jetlag get in the way of my tutu-fied fun, I decided to do some sightseeing straight away!
Tutus and Vienna's Royal History
What's more elegant than a tutu? Why, an imperial palace of course! I headed straight for the Schönbrunn Palace, all pink tulle swishing around me as I stepped out of the taxi. I couldn't resist taking a few selfies in front of the iconic fountain, feeling every inch the princess. I must say, this palace was simply spectacular! The historical rooms felt so grand and opulent - and then thereâs that breathtaking garden - with a little bit of imagination, I could imagine the royal ladies dancing across those lawns in their most opulent ball gowns, and maybe even a tutu or two.
The history just whispered "Tutu time!â And the city is just perfect for ballet and tutu inspiration!
*A Ballet Evening - *The Sleeping Beauty **
Oh, my dear fellow ballet lovers! There's just no place like Vienna for an unforgettable evening at the theatre! This time I went to the State Opera for the most magnificent performance of Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty. This is probably one of the most beautiful and iconic ballets - itâs an absolute favourite of mine. I love the romance, the delicate grace of the dancing, the dramatic music, the whole magical story of the sleeping princess, and how Aurora is finally awoken by true love's kiss to return to the world of beauty and dancing.
I donât mind admitting that I almost wept tears of pure joy when Auroraâs beautiful dancing, her beautiful dress and those perfect ballet shoes - you know the feeling! The music, the setting - a perfect storm of magical, pink-tutu, and dancing. It truly was magical, I think I even heard angels sing when she did the final pirouette!
I even spotted a lady at the ballet who had on a pink tutu (I tried not to stare!).
Breakfast and Ballet Dreams
Today I took myself to a wonderful cafe with views across the beautiful park, right near the State Opera (in my favourite pink tutu of course, the "Prima Ballerina"). I have to admit, itâs not always easy to keep your ballerina grace when trying to navigate those cobblestone streets. Vienna has an air of elegance and sophistication thatâs just irresistible, and with all these lovely buildings, cafes, and flower markets, I can see exactly what inspired Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert and all the great artists.
After my delicious breakfast, I spent some time enjoying Viennaâs amazing park - Vienna is full of the most lovely green spaces! They were filled with beautiful flowers - the perfect setting for ballet practice! I just had to do a few grand jetĂ©s and fouettĂ©s (I think itâs a crime not to do ballet when in such a beautiful spot!)
My lovely grandma always said âAlways embrace your passions!â And sheâs so right! I absolutely love my little tutus and Vienna is just such a dreamy ballet destination.
More to Come...
Iâve got a busy few days ahead of me, with ballet performances (Iâll tell you all about it), horse and carriage rides, more sightseeing (those beautiful gardens and old buildings), shopping (did I mention that Vienna has some fantastic shops, I might be needing a new pink tutu!)
Until next Wednesday my lovelies!
