Vienna, oh Vienna! A Pink Tutu Dream Come True! (Post #1063)

Hello my lovelies! Emma here, your favourite pink tutu wearing ballerina, reporting live from Vienna, the city of waltzes and wonder! And oh my goodness, you won't believe what I've been up to this week!

This week, I finally reached Vienna after a delightful train journey from Paris, with a little stopover in Salzburg, where I enjoyed a fabulous Mozartkugeln at the very cafe where he himself enjoyed this decadent sweet treat. It felt positively magical, a bit like a scene out of The Sound of Music. You just know that Maria would have stopped there to pick up a delicious sweet too, don't you?

I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to be in Vienna. It’s absolutely breathtaking - think elegant cobbled streets, grand architecture and coffee houses with the most gorgeous cakes, oh my! And speaking of things that make me swoon, this city has an unbelievable history with ballet, too. The Vienna State Opera, now that's the kind of venue to get my toes tapping and tutu twirling. I even popped into their gift shop and came home with the cutest little tutu keyring - perfect for keeping my keys safe in my vintage floral handbag, by the way. It's pink of course, I'm a bit of a pink fan if you hadn't already noticed!

And you know me, I’m always on the lookout for a great ballet class to keep those pirouettes perfect, so I found the most charming little studio tucked away in a quiet courtyard, not far from the famous Vienna State Opera. The instructor was a proper old-school ballet teacher with the kindest smile and a fierce attention to detail when it came to turnout and elegance! You know I love a bit of old-fashioned ballet etiquette – it's just good for the soul, and honestly makes for some beautiful, fluid movements. They really know how to move their feet here. I felt positively inspired!

Speaking of inspiration, one of my favourite finds was a vintage clothing shop overflowing with beautiful silk dresses and fabulous shoes. Now, I must confess, I'm a bit of a vintage girl myself - there's something so romantic about finding a beautiful pre-loved garment that whispers stories of the past. I had to treat myself to a lovely little powder blue tulle skirt - perfect for my evening out, if I say so myself. But of course, you can't leave a vintage shop without picking up a little pink tutu. Just had to! You know my philosophy – a girl can never have too many tutus. The shop assistant, bless her heart, thought I was the most curious creature with my pink tulle ensemble and bright red ballet shoes, and I can't blame her. You should see my look now – pure vintage chic with a touch of ballet sparkle!

And the city's been providing the perfect inspiration for new blog posts too - the beautiful palaces and parks would have my tutu twirling even if it hadn't rained! We’ve had a little drizzle on and off this week. Makes those cosy little cafes even more inviting, you know what I mean? Just grab a cup of frothy cappuccino, sit by the window, and enjoy the city's beautiful architecture.

One thing that struck me is the absolutely gorgeous food – my favourite Vienna treats so far have definitely been the Sachertorte, a decadent chocolate cake with a apricot jam centre, and Apfelstrudel, warm and gooey with vanilla sauce. You know what they say – all those calories go right back into ballet steps!

The other night I went to a traditional Viennese restaurant and they actually served their schnitzel with potatoes. A potato mash instead of fries or salad, which seems absolutely outrageous and delightful. It was so rich and creamy!

Speaking of outrageously delightful, my love of Viennese ballet history had me galloping (well, trotting in the city’s amazing horse-drawn carriage, of course!) out to the Schӧnbrunn Palace! You guys have to imagine the picture, me, all in pink tutu and sparkling tights, swirling across the palace grounds and stopping to take photos of this incredibly grand and regal structure. It's definitely a good thing I’ve got a little more confidence now that I'm in my twenties.

My most incredible find this week has to be the Hofburg Imperial Apartments, where the Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Elisabeth used to live! I practically twirled through the beautiful, grand rooms, with the chandeliers shimmering above me like a galaxy of twinkling stars, each one perfectly catching my reflection. I swear I could feel the ghosts of Empress Sisi, a woman who loved ballet, too. It really does feel like she was there, watching me admire her old home. Talk about a little historical moment – my tutu was practically buzzing with energy.

Of course, being in Vienna I simply HAD to catch a show at the Vienna State Opera. The production I saw was The Nutcracker, which, I can’t lie, is always one of my favourites. The performance was simply dazzling, with stunning sets and costumes and some incredibly talented dancers who really showcased their incredible technique. Honestly, I think I watched their every move with my jaw hanging open! A bit of a dream, let me tell you. The whole experience had me feeling like a proper ballerina in a fairytale world!

So, it seems I'm quite smitten with this little city! Vienna feels a lot like stepping back into the world of elegant waltzes and swirling skirts. I feel so grateful that I get to explore all these incredible cities, wear my beloved tutus, and share my adventures with you. What an extraordinary journey, this pink tutu adventure!

And here's a thought for you, dear readers – if Vienna can charm me, with its history and glamour, its love of dance and its absolutely delicious cakes and treats (don't even get me started on the kisses of a **Schӧnbrunn Palace gardener!), who's to say what else is possible? Don’t ever forget – it's always good to have a pink tutu, a sprinkle of fairytale magic, and a heart that's always dancing!

See you next Wednesday for another magical update!

Until then, stay sassy!

Emma xx

P.S. Don’t forget, if you’re planning your own Viennese adventure, I'd recommend taking a little stroll to the Naschmarkt. A real treat, I promise. You'll be dancing your way through its beautiful stalls in no time. Be warned though, the food here is just too delicious!

P.P.S. Keep an eye out on the Pink Tutu blog for a little giveaway next week! And please don't hesitate to tell me about your Vienna adventures or any other travel dreams. I'd love to hear about your favourite tutus and outfits! We can be a whole pink tutu team , travelling the world, and making pink tutu magic everywhere we go. That's my goal, you know? I want to get everyone twirling and feeling fabulous. Now wouldn’t that be a perfect dream?
