Hello my dearest tutu-lovers! It's Emma here, back from another whirlwind trip, this time to the majestic Vienna! Now, let's be honest, any city that boasts a whole palace dedicated to ballet is right up my alley. And let me tell you, the Hofburg Palace, home to the Spanish Riding School, blew my mind.
This Wednesday's post comes straight from Vienna, Austria, a place that just radiates charm and elegance. And as you all know, those are two things I hold very dear! You wouldn't believe the glorious architecture here - those stately buildings, the grand boulevards...it's almost like stepping straight into a Jane Austen novel!
And let's not forget about the ballet scene! The Vienna State Opera is practically bursting with history and artistry. Imagine, dancing under a glittering chandelier, surrounded by stunning, ornate detail - the atmosphere was utterly magical! They even had a gorgeous pink tutu-clad ballerina (me, obviously) doing a twirl in front of the entrance for a photo shoot. 😉
My heart went aflutter at the Spanish Riding School. Seeing those magnificent Lipizzaner horses perform, dressed in their stunning livery, was like watching ballet in its purest form. Such incredible precision, power, and grace, all set against the backdrop of that awe-inspiring imperial palace. I even bought myself a miniature Lipizzaner horse statue (because a girl's got to have souvenirs!), decked out in its tiny riding outfit, it's practically a work of art!
A Fashionable Adventure:
Vienna is, of course, a shopper's paradise. From the vintage boutiques overflowing with unique treasures to the high-end designer stores on Kohlmarkt, it's a haven for any fashionista. My pink tutu certainly attracted plenty of attention on the streets (a lovely way to brighten someone's day!), but the city's street style is a delightful mix of classic and contemporary.
I found myself indulging in some new finds – a pair of dainty ballet pumps (pink, of course!) and a luxurious cashmere scarf to match the elegant spirit of Vienna. And you wouldn’t believe the number of pink dresses I spied in shop windows – clearly, Vienna appreciates a touch of that signature pink sparkle.
Vienna, A Feast for the Senses:
Now, let's talk about food. From the rich chocolate treats at the famous Demel patisserie to the comforting schnitzel at a traditional Viennese restaurant, this city truly indulges the senses. And the coffee culture? Absolutely delightful. Sipping a perfectly brewed latte, surrounded by the buzz of a Viennese café, felt like something out of a film.
The coffee wasn't the only thing that made me feel like a princess in a fairytale! Vienna truly is the City of Music. Even just walking down the streets, you hear beautiful music echoing from churches and concert halls. I just have to add this little secret: I had the most delicious and beautiful cake with my Viennese coffee. It was pink! Don’t tell anyone else, but I suspect this might be the most magical place in the whole world.
Taking the Scenic Route:
Travelling to Vienna is an experience in itself. The train journey from my Derbyshire home through the picturesque German countryside was simply magical. The gentle sway of the carriages, the soft whispers of conversation, and the scenery flitting past my window – it truly was a tranquil and romantic start to my trip. And just like a fairytale, the grand Viennese station welcomed me with its beautiful architecture and charming ambiance.
The way back to the station, though? It was by horse-drawn carriage. I couldn't resist this charming transport option, with a ride along the scenic Ringstrasse. With its horse-drawn carriages, grand palaces, and a lively blend of history and modern life, Vienna is the ultimate romantic escape.
Vienna has captured my heart. It's a city where history dances with fashion, where music whispers in the breeze, and where the beauty of ballet inspires every step you take. If you're ever looking for a little Parisian charm with a touch of Austro-Hungarian grandeur, look no further.
