Vienna Calling: A Pink Tutu Adventure (Blog Post #1194)
Hello my lovely pink-loving darlings! It's Wednesday again, and you know what that means – another exciting installment of my Pink Tutu Vienna blog!
I'm currently writing to you from my charming little hotel room in Vienna, the City of Music! It’s been a whirlwind week of ballet bliss, punctuated by delightful strolls down grand boulevards, decadent cakes, and – of course – a few glorious new additions to my tutu collection.
This week's journey started with a rather romantic train journey from Salzburg, where I was last week, marvelling at the Salzburg Festival. This year marks the festival's 100th anniversary, so it was a true extravaganza! I particularly enjoyed the outdoor performances – a lovely touch of "street theatre" against a stunning backdrop of the city's medieval walls. I’m planning on coming back in the summer to see some of the more famous performances when the festival is in full swing!
Now, Vienna, my dearest darlings, is quite simply a haven for any pink tutu-clad ballet enthusiast like myself. It's a city steeped in ballet history and, as they say, Vienna waltz in my heart.
My Vienna ballet adventure began with a visit to the Vienna State Opera, a stunning example of Baroque architecture, even for a pink tutu aficionado! Just imagine – I'm sitting in the opulent opera house, sipping a glass of pink lemonade (one cannot simply live without it!), and gazing at the fabulous gilded balconies while a glorious rendition of “The Nutcracker” unfolds before me. A truly magical experience! I found myself lost in a world of graceful dancers, magnificent costumes, and sweeping music – a symphony of colours and emotions.
Then, I spent an afternoon wandering through the elegant rooms of the Hofburg Palace, tracing the footsteps of emperors and empresses who, you’d be surprised to hear, weren’t quite as enthusiastic about pink tutus as I am, but had a certain fascination with elaborate gowns and powdered wigs. Who wouldn't? They have the same air of dramatic sophistication as a perfectly pink, fluffy tutu, in my humble opinion.
Vienna is absolutely buzzing with gorgeous boutiques brimming with beautiful clothing and accessories! A girl can never have too many sparkly ballroom dresses, right? I am delighted with my newest chiffon top, it's such a perfect pairing with my "Vienna Rose" tutu! I think I might try to catch some of the famous Wiener Philharmoniker concerts in my new outfit – it seems very fitting for an occasion as extravagant and classical as their orchestras!
But beyond all the glitz and glamour, Vienna also boasts a unique charm that lies in its small cafes, the bustling market squares, and the beautiful parks. I especially loved the Stadtpark, with its sprawling green spaces, charming fountains, and quaint benches. It's the perfect place to relax and people-watch, and maybe even sketch a few quick drawings of the colourful characters who wander through its pathways. I even encountered a local group of ballet students having a class right in the middle of the park, surrounded by ducks and giggling children! What a charming moment.
You're probably wondering what’s on my agenda for this week – well, I have big plans for Vienna! I intend to visit the Schönbrunn Palace (you know, that gorgeous baroque palace where they filmed the Sound of Music? Swoon!). And then it’s time to catch another magnificent ballet at the Volksoper. And if I have enough energy, perhaps some time for a few waltzes around the famous Vienna State Opera House – with or without a tutu to be decided!
Stay tuned for more Pink Tutu Vienna updates, and I can't wait to share the highlights with you all next week! Remember: there's no need to wait for the weekend, a little touch of pink can turn any ordinary day into an adventure. Keep it classy and always, always, remember: every day's an excuse for a pink tutu!
Until next week,
XOXO, Emma
