Vienna, Darling, Vienna! (Post #1195)
Well, hello my lovelies! It's Wednesday, which means it's time for another instalment of Pink Tutu Travels - and this week I'm whisking you away to the beautiful, romantic city of Vienna!
Now, Vienna holds a special place in my heart for so many reasons. First and foremost, it's a city bursting with history. And let's be honest, ballet history is a passion of mine, from the legendary "Ballett der Wiener Staatsoper" right through to the charming street performers who bring the city to life.
But Vienna isn't just about the past, darlings. This vibrant city pulses with creativity. The energy is electrifying, just like the colours of the flower stalls in the market squares, and the delicious smell of fresh pastries that hangs in the air. Speaking of which, I think I need a second Viennese Sachertorte - oh the joy!
This trip, however, started on a different kind of high, a horse-powered high! Imagine my delight at finding a beautiful Fiaker (that's a traditional Viennese horse-drawn carriage, for those not in the know) waiting for me at the station! I hopped in with a flourish, my pink tulle swirling behind me like a fluffy pink cloud, and set off on my Viennese adventure.
Ballet by the Danube:
I must admit, my first stop was the Wiener Staatsoper, of course! You know how much I adore the classical ballet scene, and this house has a legacy that stretches back centuries! The building itself is breathtaking, all ornate detailing and sparkling chandeliers. It was like stepping into a dream. The performance I saw was a captivating adaptation of Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake", the costumes and choreography were simply magical. There were whispers of the Imperial family around the building too, such exciting tales of royal patrons!
A Touch of Fashion:
No trip to Vienna would be complete without a bit of retail therapy! Now, you know my heart belongs to pink, and Vienna definitely didn't disappoint. I found myself swept up in a whirlwind of delightful shops and boutiques - silk scarves in all shades of blush, pretty lace-trimmed gloves, and delicate, vintage earrings that perfectly complement any ballerina's wardrobe.
It's funny, as I meandered through the streets, I noticed something interesting: a gentle reminder of how fashion and history can intersect. So many of the traditional Viennese fashions are subtly intertwined with elements of ballet, especially the grander garments like evening dresses, which seem to share an air of sophistication and fluidity with ballerina attire. Perhaps that's why the Vienna Opera Ball is considered such an exquisite event, a perfect blend of culture and elegance!
And finally… the Tutus!
Vienna is also a wonderful place to find ballet inspiration! I stumbled upon an absolutely charming little boutique tucked away in a cobbled alleyway. It sold the most gorgeous ballet wear and costumes – and there were tutus, naturally! From classic white tutus to extravagant multi-layered creations, they had it all. I couldn’t help myself. A new pink tulle masterpiece to adorn my wardrobe, and, of course, another new tutu to spread my pink tutu message, was a definite necessity!
Beyond the Ballet:
You'd think that my love for the stage and tutus might consume all my time in Vienna, wouldn’t you? Well, the answer is a definite “maybe!” But this wonderful city is brimming with attractions beyond the ballet! I took a romantic stroll along the banks of the Danube, admiring the breathtaking scenery as I savoured a freshly-made apple strudel. I explored the historic streets of Altstadt, admiring the grand buildings and enjoying a bit of local charm at a quaint café.
My Vienna Mission:
As always, one of my most treasured experiences in Vienna has been sharing my love for pink with the people I meet. They love to see the joy it brings. My fellow travelers were particularly amused by the spectacle of me in my pink tulle tutu on a local carriage tour. You know me, darling! Always willing to embrace the theatricality! One young girl in particular even dared to ask if she could try my tutu. I don’t think you’ll be surprised when I say we ended up spending an hour giggling together on the carousel! What an absolute joy!
And you know what? Every smile, every laugh, reminds me why I do what I do. Why I make it my mission to spread a bit of colour and joy through pink tutus and ballet. To show the world how fabulous and enchanting pink really is!
So, until next Wednesday, darlings. Stay fabulous!
With a twirl and a flourish,
Emma
