Vienna, My Darling! A Pink Tutu Adventure (Blog Post #1328)

Wednesday 14th October 2020

Guten Tag, my lovelies! It's your favourite pink-tutu-clad ballerina, Emma, reporting live from the beautiful, whimsical city of Vienna. I've just arrived, fresh off the train (I adore those long, romantic journeys across Europe, you know!) and ready to immerse myself in Viennese culture.

A Pink Tutu Symphony

This city is like a beautiful ballet score come to life! The architecture is elegant and ornate, each building a grand waltz of sweeping curves and delicate flourishes. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to pirouette down cobblestone streets and leap over lampposts with joy! Oh, Vienna, how I adore you!

Vienna’s Fashion Legacy

And talking of joy, did you know Vienna’s got a fascinating fashion history? From the dazzling finery of the Habsburg emperors and empresses to the sleek, modern designs of the 20th century, it's a place where fashion is as captivating as a Balanchine ballet. It's no surprise that my suitcase is overflowing with pink and frills. Just wait till you see what I found at the vintage shops around the Naschmarkt.

On the Trail of Tutus

I’ve already embarked on my tutu treasure hunt. Vienna’s Opera House (Vienna State Opera) is one of the most iconic opera houses in the world. Just picturing all the magnificent costumes that must have graced this stage makes my heart flutter. This afternoon, I'm going to see "Swan Lake" – and who knows, maybe a pink tutu or two will be in the audience!

Speaking of the ballet, did you know Vienna has a vibrant dance scene? The Vienna State Ballet is renowned for its artistry, and I can't wait to catch a performance later in the week. I’ve been practicing my fouettes (don't worry, no one will witness my efforts!) to prepare for my own spontaneous street performance, of course!

A Symphony of Sweets

No trip to Vienna would be complete without indulging in some of its legendary sweets! Sacher-Torte is calling my name, and I hear whispers of a heavenly Viennese coffee that pairs perfectly with pink tutus… and afternoon waltzes! (Can't forget the waltz, dear readers! Vienna’s the city of waltzes, the city of swirling dresses, the city of…well, you get the idea!).

Vienna's Musical Heritage

My journey isn't just about dancing and tutus (though that's always the focus, wouldn't you agree?) Vienna boasts an incredible musical history, too. I'm going to the Musikverein to hear Mozart, and later in the week I’ll explore the beautiful Vienna Philharmonic orchestra archives. Music, fashion, dance, it all swirls together like a graceful arabesque!

My Fashion Picks

For a truly glamorous waltz, nothing says “Vienna” more than a statement gown, preferably pink, darling! A flowing pink tulle dress would be divine, with sparkling silver embellishments echoing the Viennese grandeur. Add a dramatic hat with a touch of pink feathers and…bam! Instant Parisian chic. You can find vintage treasures tucked away in the charming streets and a fantastic selection in the shops along Kohlmarkt – just don’t tell my bank balance about my recent finds… winks.

Keeping It Real (Pink!)

While all this fancy waltzing and elegant waltzes is amazing, remember, I'm just a normal Derbyshire lass (who just happens to wear tutus, of course!). So don't worry, I’ll keep you updated on all the real Vienna adventures, including those hidden cafes with delicious schnitzel (always a favourite!), exploring the whimsical Schönbrunn Palace, and possibly…a surprise pink tutu flash mob! (Think big dreams, dear reader!).

Stay tuned for more adventures, and don’t forget, I’m all about pink tutus for everyone. Be bold, be you, be pink! Until next week!

Emma xoxo
