Pink Tutu Vienna: Post #1402 - Ballet Bliss and Bohemian Beauty

Oh, darling readers, it's Wednesday again! That means it's time for another dose of Vienna from your favourite pink tutu-wearing, ballet-obsessed blogger, Emma! 🩰

I'm currently perched on a plush velvet cushion in my Vienna hotel room, surrounded by the scent of freshly brewed coffee and the whispers of waltzes from the street below. You wouldn't believe how excited I am to share today's adventures with you all, my dear tutus!

This week, I've been indulging in a whirlwind of all things ballet. From graceful performances at the Vienna State Opera to a fascinating journey through the city's captivating ballet history, this week has truly been a dream for a ballerina like myself.

Ballet in Vienna: A City of Swans and Swans-a-licious Performances

First, let's talk about the Vienna State Opera! The grand theatre, all gold and marble, practically radiates a sense of opulence. You can almost feel the weight of history, of all the greats who graced its stage - Strauss, Mozart, Mahler! It's no wonder it's considered one of the most prestigious opera houses in the world.

This week, I saw an enchanting performance of Swan Lake. I practically danced in my seat, so mesmerized by the beautiful costumes, the graceful choreography, and the emotion-packed performances. I mean, seriously, who wouldn't fall in love with a show that tells the story of a swan princess cursed to transform into a bird by day? It's enough to make any ballet-lover's heart flutter!

A Journey Through Time: Ballet History & Vienna's Secret Spots

Of course, no trip to Vienna is complete without delving into the city's rich ballet history. You can't just sit in an amazing theater and watch breathtaking performances, you have to understand what you are watching. You need context! And the great thing about Vienna is that its ballet history is just as exciting as its musical legacy.

This week, I explored the beautiful Schönbrunn Palace, which is steeped in history and plays a pivotal role in Vienna's ballet scene. Did you know that the Imperial family were passionate about ballet, even having their own private ballet company in the palace? Well, you do now! There is actually a beautifully decorated hall with original dance floor where the Emperor Franz Joseph even danced on occasion with his wife, the beautiful Empress Elisabeth! (Not as elegant as me in my pink tutu though... 😉 )

And the palace itself is absolutely stunning! From the grand staircase to the immaculately decorated rooms, each room offers a glimpse into a bygone era of imperial opulence and grace.

Fashion & Shopping: The Pink Tutu Finds a Home in Vienna

What's a trip to a vibrant city like Vienna without a little shopping, right? And you can be sure my pink tutu and I were absolutely spoilt for choice in the city's numerous boutiques and department stores.

We were particularly charmed by the beautiful shops in the city center. There are gorgeous, traditional stores where I discovered a stunning silk scarf that matched the hues of my pink tutu, which now graces my neck! My shopping bag also found its way home with a charming antique locket adorned with tiny pearl dancers! I mean, it's like they were made for my pink tutu!

Oh, and if you're ever looking for the perfect gift for a ballerina (or a ballet-loving pink tutu enthusiast!), the Stadtpark has an array of shops selling delightful ballet memorabilia – from handmade tutus to intricate figurines.

The Pink Tutu Explores Vienna on Four Wheels (and Four Legs)

And the city itself? It's like a page ripped from a fairytale. Everywhere you turn, there are magnificent buildings, lush parks, and cobblestone streets buzzing with life. And you wouldn't believe the coffee shops! They're the most charming little gems tucked away in the side streets. Oh, I'm going to miss all the fantastic pastries!

This week, I explored the city in style, venturing to its various landmarks and charming squares, hopping onto a vintage horse-drawn carriage that transported me back in time. There is a particular route from my hotel to the Hofburg that takes you along a series of beautiful squares, down quiet side streets and by stunning buildings, which is totally magical.

And of course, I explored the city's impressive train network. As a fellow train enthusiast (it's true! I get to visit so many new and exciting cities on the train), Vienna has a fantastic system - fast, clean and a little romantic, if you know what I mean!

Pink Tutu's Next Vienna Adventure: The Waltz and the Ballet!

Stay tuned next week for more pink-tastic adventures! I’ll be waltzing into Vienna's ballrooms, savoring some exquisite pastries at Café Sacher, and catching a show at the famed Vienna State Ballet. Plus, you know what's coming? That's right! I'm trying a few different Vienna tutu styles. I have a feeling the city's style will be reflected in my next tutu design...

Don't forget, darlings, if you're planning a trip to Vienna yourself, let me know! You know you can always rely on the Pink Tutu for some stellar tips and insights. And be sure to check back next week for more adventures from the heart of Europe. Until then, keep dancing, my dears!

Much love, Emma www.pink-tutu.com
