Pink Tutu Vienna: Post #1419 - A Whirlwind of Waltz and Wiener Schnitzel

Wednesday, 13th July 2022

Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu wearing blogger, Emma, here, writing to you live from the heart of Vienna, Austria! The air is thick with the scent of freshly baked Sachertorte, the sound of waltz music floats through the cobbled streets, and the city's elegance is reflected in the grand architecture that surrounds me. This is a place where fairy tales and history collide, and let me tell you, it's making my heart sing like a Prima Ballerina!

This week's Pink Tutu Vienna adventure started with a magical train journey. There's something so romantic about train travel, isn't there? With the landscape blurring by in a kaleidoscope of greens and blues, I lost myself in a world of dreams. Oh, and the outfit, my loves? Let me tell you, I had to go all out! A silk pink top with an intricate bow at the neck, a flowing pink chiffon skirt (it twirled with every sway of the train) and of course, the pièce de résistance: a pink tutu with layers of delicate tulle. Every stop was a photoshoot opportunity!

Once I arrived in Vienna, I felt like I'd stepped straight into a storybook. The city is bursting with imperial grandeur, with palaces like Schönbrunn and Hofburg showcasing the elegance and sophistication of the Habsburg Empire. Everywhere you look, you see statues of famous ballet dancers and opera singers, reminders of Vienna's enduring legacy in the world of the performing arts.

Speaking of performing arts, I managed to snag tickets to a spectacular ballet performance at the Vienna State Opera. My darlings, I swear I had goosebumps throughout the entire show! The ballerinas were so graceful and precise, their movements like whispered stories unfolding in a dance. It reminded me of why I fell in love with ballet all those years ago - it’s a language of movement, emotions and pure artistic expression.

And, of course, what trip to Vienna would be complete without a visit to the iconic Vienna State Ballet Museum? I simply adored the historical collection of costumes and stage props. Seeing those exquisite, ornate tutus up close, each one meticulously crafted with delicate layers of tulle, brought me to tears! It's truly a testament to the dedication and artistry that goes into creating these stunning costumes, and it fills me with so much joy knowing that generations before me have graced the stage in such masterpieces.

Speaking of masterpieces, Vienna has been serving me some serious fashion inspiration! The shops here are overflowing with exquisite fabrics, chic boutiques and delightful vintage finds. It’s all very sophisticated and classic, with an edge of modern cool thrown in for good measure. This is the kind of place where you can wear a bold pink statement piece and still look effortlessly chic. So naturally, I indulged in a little shopping spree – how could I resist!

There's just so much I love about this city – the charming coffee houses with their Viennese pastries, the romantic horse-drawn carriages that take you on a picturesque journey through the heart of the city, and of course, the sheer joy of witnessing a city where the arts are embraced with open arms.

To round off this week’s post, I have to share the absolutely delicious Wiener Schnitzel I enjoyed at a traditional Viennese restaurant. It was heavenly – thin, crispy and juicy, perfectly golden brown, accompanied by a simple side of potatoes and a tangy, creamy salad. Let's be honest, I'm not sure what took me so long to get to Vienna – this is definitely a place I'll be revisiting time and time again!
