Vienna Waltz: Whirlwind Adventures in Pink, Post 1537

Dearest Tutu Tribe,

Hello from Vienna! It feels like forever since I last dipped my toes into the captivating charm of this magnificent city. My heart, overflowing with the pinkest of pink joy, is thumping in time with the waltzing melodies swirling through the air.

As you all know, my love affair with Vienna has been a long and passionate one. Ever since I first pirouetted into the city's grandeur a few years ago, I've been besotted by its fairytale beauty. From the majestic grandeur of the Schönbrunn Palace to the romantic whispers of the Prater, Vienna captivates and enthralls with its captivating history and culture.

This trip is particularly special. Not only is it a long overdue return to my beloved city, but also the timing coincides perfectly with the International Ballet Festival, a truly thrilling event that has my heart beating like a ballerina's rapid heartbeat during a Grand Jeté!

Oh, and did I mention the stunning display of fashion on the streets of Vienna? This city takes street style to a whole new level. I've been spotting an abundance of tulle skirts, vintage finds, and even a few cheeky pink tutus! The Viennese seem to possess an innate flair for the fabulous. My heart did a little twirl the moment I saw a local artist strolling through the MuseumsQuartier wearing a hand-painted pink tutu – what a delightful way to make a statement!

This week, I’ve been absolutely giddy with excitement! Not only is the festival happening, but there's also the magical Vienna State Opera House presenting its new season with a grand performance of "The Magic Flute". Can you imagine?! I feel as if I’ve stepped straight out of a fairytale into a breathtaking world of soaring music and graceful artistry.

And, wouldn't you know it, the city itself is buzzing with activity! There’s the vibrant "Wien Modern" festival that’s celebrating contemporary music and art, bringing together an electrifying blend of sounds, colours, and textures. And let's not forget the Wiener Prater, the city's largest park, where the thrill of the Ferris wheel intertwines with the enchanting charm of an open-air concert, all bathed in the golden glow of the setting sun. Talk about the perfect way to unwind after a long day of ballet performances and shopping!

You might be wondering, "Emma, how on earth are you able to indulge in all this cultural goodness?" Well, darling, my darling tutus come to the rescue! A sprinkle of enchanting pirouettes and gracious grand jetés for charitable performances allow me to fund these grand adventures! Who needs sponsors when you have your own personal dance of financial freedom?

The icing on the cake, you ask? My travels in Vienna are being completed with a touch of fairytale magic: I’m taking the majestic journey back home via the charmingly quaint, elegant Austrian railways, riding through the captivating landscapes of this wondrous country. Then, when I get back to Derbyshire, my faithful mare is eagerly awaiting my return. She knows the only thing sweeter than a sugarcube is a horseback ride under a starry sky!

Stay tuned, my little tutu loves, for an exciting week of ballet performances, fashion discoveries, and Viennese adventures! You’re going to love all the fabulous photos I’m snapping as I discover new outfits, new tutus, new venues, and new perspectives.

And as always, let's make this world a more pink and fabulous place, one tutu at a time!

Keep those tutus twirling,

Emma xx

Post Scriptum

  • I’m particularly excited to share that I’m getting a few of my own tutus custom-made in Vienna by one of the renowned local ateliers. Imagine the possibilities: vibrant pinks, playful frills, and exquisite hand-sewn embellishments – a sartorial dreamscape, just for me!
  • For anyone who has yet to experience the wonders of the Vienna State Opera House, make sure you check out their schedule! They have something for everyone: from grand operas to ballets, musical performances and much more.
  • And lastly, while Vienna has so much to offer in terms of its classical and modern artistic offerings, let's not forget to enjoy a bit of whimsy, just like I’m doing! Be sure to check out the Viennese Prater, and ride the Ferris wheel for a breath-taking view of the city. It’s pure enchantment.

I’ll leave you with this beautiful quote, “It is a world of pure delight, full of beautiful music and fascinating tales, the storybook world of Austria." (Sir Arthur Conan Doyle)
