Pink Tutu Vienna - Post 1543: Whirlwind Waltz Through Vienna's Enchanted City

Hello my dearest pink-tutu lovers! It’s Emma, back from a magical adventure in Vienna, Austria!

Oh, darling, this city is truly a dreamland! I arrived yesterday on the most romantic train journey imaginable - it was like stepping straight out of a fairytale. I could hardly resist the urge to spin around the carriage in my newest pink tulle tutu. After all, a little pirouette never hurt anyone!

This week's blog is a bit of a whirlwind, filled with ballet shows, historical adventures, and of course, more gorgeous fashion finds. So strap on your tutus and join me on this Viennese adventure!

A Whimsical Waltz Through Vienna's History

Firstly, I simply had to visit the Vienna State Opera. I was mesmerised by the breathtaking grandeur, the ornate architecture and the vibrant atmosphere. The sheer scale of this magnificent opera house, dating back to 1869, almost took my breath away. Did you know, dear readers, it’s the second-largest opera house in the world? This was simply an extraordinary place, where history and the arts entwined. I felt like a little ballerina on stage in the middle of it all, surrounded by exquisite music and the awe of generations past.

The next day, I found myself wandering the cobbled streets of the Old Town, feeling like a little pink-tutu-wearing fairy, marveling at the ancient architecture and charm. You'll find some gorgeous antique shops along these streets - I managed to snaffle up a pair of dainty ballet pumps, a gift for my lovely ballet teacher!

Speaking of history, did you know that the Schönbrunn Palace is a real ballet-lovers haven? You know me - I’m all about history and, well, everything pink and girly - and Vienna truly has it all. Schönbrunn Palace has its own beautiful theatre, built for Empress Maria Theresa, who was an avid supporter of the arts. They say she even had a special performance stage built in her own palace for her very own ballets!

And if you’re thinking about Vienna, just imagine yourself waltzing through St. Stephen’s Cathedral, a stunning Gothic masterpiece that's as intricate and magical as it sounds. I could hardly resist a little twirl in my pink tutu as the light from the stained-glass windows danced across the walls.

Shopping for a Ballet Beauty

After all this culture, my dear friends, there’s always room for a spot of retail therapy, and oh darling, Vienna is a shopping heaven!

First stop, I discovered “Kleiderwerkstadt” - a stunning boutique on a small alleyway that held beautiful handmade tutus - and yes, of course I tried them on, how could I resist?! Each one was more glamorous than the last, and each one with its own enchanting tale woven into the fabrics. I bought a particularly beautiful, flowing light blue tutu which will make my Derbyshire ballet school friends swoon, trust me.

Later on, I popped into the "Schuhpark", where I discovered the most elegant dance shoes imaginable. I couldn't resist buying a pair of rose-gold ballet flats - perfect for waltzing the night away! I even purchased a stunning, velvet hair band with sparkling pearls, which I absolutely must try out on my next ballet performance.

Speaking of fashion, you’ll also want to check out Vienna’s designer boutiques along KĂ€rtner Strasse. It’s an exquisite place to indulge in your favourite pink shades and, let’s face it, a must-see for any self-respecting tutu aficionado!

Whirlwind Waltz Through a Viennese Evening

No trip to Vienna is complete without seeing a show. And so, I booked myself a ticket to the Vienna State Opera, to see Mozart’s "Don Giovanni."

You’ll be hard pressed to find a more impressive opera house anywhere in the world!

The grandeur of this beautiful opera house, and the opulence of its decor, were captivating - think glistening chandeliers, beautiful murals and red velvet seating. Of course, I sported my newest pink tutu - you'd have thought I'd designed the performance, given how many admirers I got for my sense of style!

“Don Giovanni,” itself, is such a wonderful show - I loved the storytelling, the costumes, the passion - truly unforgettable! My heart practically skipped a beat with the sheer emotion of the final act. I even had to squeeze in a few pirouettes in the plush opera boxes!

And just when I thought the day couldn't get any better, I stumbled upon a delightful surprise! A group of musicians were performing a string quartet just around the corner from the hotel, in a beautifully lit square. I found myself swaying and swirling in the middle of the crowd as they played the most romantic waltzes imaginable - perfect for a tutu-clad dancer to enjoy, wouldn't you say? This charming scene made me realize, darling, this magical city doesn't just enchant your eyes - it sings to your very soul!

Ballet Bliss in Vienna's Breathtaking Ballroom

One of my top highlights this trip had to be my experience at Hotel Sacher. Now, this legendary establishment isn't just known for its exquisite cake, although it is, darling, simply divine! But, it also boasts a truly magnificent ballroom, one fit for the most luxurious waltz imaginable.

Stepping into that ballroom, all grand pillars and decadent chandeliers, felt like walking into a time capsule. My pink tutu felt so at home in this beautiful room, its history whispering stories of balls and galas. You know me - I've a soft spot for history - particularly those who've danced to the rhythm of waltz!

But the beauty wasn’t just about the decor - it was about the music! The orchestra took me right back to the heart of Vienna’s waltzing legacy. The room was filled with an unforgettable mix of joy, music and movement, truly encapsulating the magic of this charming city.

More Than Just A Tutu - Sharing a Touch of Pink in Vienna

Now, darling, while my trips are certainly fun, they’re not about chasing the glitz and glamour, though I do love my little bits of both! No, my aim, is to spread my love for tutus - and more importantly - a love of dance - all over the world, one little pink twirl at a time!

And I have to tell you - I saw smiles all over Vienna. You’ll find this delightful city is a great place to be creative. From the stunning costumes I found at the theatre, to the way the local dance groups spin around, in full tutu regalia!

And guess what? It really wasn’t long until my own bright pink tutu attracted a smile from someone who had never tried on a tutu before. We danced around, and I think she may have even bought a pink tutu herself after that - perhaps a pink tutued waltz really can inspire people to dream in colour!

Pink Tutu Travel: Getting There In Style!

But darling, how do I get from England to Vienna, with my massive, pink, tulle tutu? Well, I like to keep things romantic. For me, travel should be as enjoyable as the destination, and I'm a true believer in travelling by train. It’s an experience that I’ll cherish every single time!

Oh darling, this time, it was like stepping straight into a romantic movie - I felt like I was on a grand tour of Europe with views of quaint villages and bustling cities. Plus, trains, with their windows open and the air whizzing by, are so wonderfully nostalgic!

The train journey even allowed me to showcase my favourite pink tutu - I always have the best time wearing it when travelling! My bright, twirly pink tutu adds just a touch of magic, wherever I go - that’s how you embrace a pink tutu lifestyle, it's about taking your style on the road with you!

And what better way to complete my fairytale Viennese adventure, than to try horse-drawn carriage riding in the heart of the city? What a fantastic way to discover the hidden treasures and narrow cobbled streets of this charming city.

Vienna, oh darling, what a magnificent experience! This journey was all about the details – the historical gems, the inspiring arts scene and the vibrant energy of its residents. Vienna, with its architecture, history, and charming local touches, will leave you feeling utterly enchanted.
