Good morning, lovelies! It’s your favourite pink-tutu-wearing ballerina, Emma, here, writing to you from the utterly magical city of Vienna. Yes, that’s right, my darlings, this week I’m bringing you a slice of Viennese delights, complete with a side of waltzing charm and a sprinkle of my own pink-tutu-inspired flair!
This city truly does have something for everyone, doesn’t it? Whether you’re an art aficionado, a history buff, or, like me, a ballet-loving soul, Vienna will embrace you with open arms and a delightful array of cultural treasures. And of course, the fashion here is exquisite, like stepping out of a couture fairytale. My wardrobe is positively bursting at the seams with new goodies, all chosen with the utmost care to be both fashionable and utterly appropriate for a ballerina on the go!
Now, as always, my dear readers, I wouldn’t dare leave you hanging – what could be more fabulous than a Wednesday in Vienna? Well, imagine a morning filled with the sweet sound of Strauss waltzes while I waltz around the magnificent Schönbrunn Palace with a stunning vintage tutu swirling around my legs. The palace, so opulent and full of history, was simply made for dancing!
My afternoon was filled with the most delectable Viennese delights – from indulging in the most scrumptious sachertorte (which, naturally, I had with a delicate glass of sparkling wine) to browsing through the beautifully curated art galleries. My eyes simply couldn't get enough of the masterpieces hanging in the Albertina – it's an art lover's paradise, no question!
Then, of course, no visit to Vienna would be complete without a breathtaking ballet performance, wouldn’t you agree? I was lucky enough to see the Giselle ballet at the Vienna State Opera. It was simply mesmerising! I have never witnessed such precision and grace, the dancers were like magical creatures flitting across the stage. And the costumes…well, darling, the tutus! Oh, my sweet tutus, you were all I could dream of! So beautifully constructed, so romantic, and perfectly encapsulating the story of the ballet. I even caught myself humming along with the famous Giselle melody for the rest of the evening!
Did I mention I made friends with a local artisan who makes beautiful handcrafted shoes? You see, darling, it just wasn’t right for a ballerina to be without a pair of Vienna-made shoes, don’t you think? Now, if you follow me on Instagram (@pinktutuemma), you’ll be the first to see photos of the exquisite creations – crafted from the most beautiful leather, with delicate detailing that reminds me of the elaborate ornamentation on Vienna's famous opera houses.
But my favourite moment of the day had to be the grand waltz in the Hofburg Palace. Imagine, lovelies, waltzing under the chandeliers, the soft sound of the orchestra blending with the whispers of the past, feeling the elegant floor beneath my feet…it was utterly magical! This historical palace, with its stunning architecture and the echo of the Habsburgs' glorious reign, just exudes such an air of romanticism and beauty! It’s the perfect backdrop for a grand ballet!
The journey from England to Vienna was just as beautiful as my time here. I opted for the romantic train journey through the beautiful countryside. So idyllic! I always find the world feels a little less frenetic when you're travelling by train. Time stretches out before you, letting you savour the scenery and daydream. And, I do love a good train journey! But it wasn't just any train; It was a historic, heritage train. The carriage I was in had a plush velvety red interior with delicate floral pattern. Such glamour! It was perfect for writing this very blog post.
Then there was the horse-drawn carriage ride I enjoyed on my first night here. It was a whimsical tour of the city! Imagine, clopping along the cobblestone streets in the hushed moonlight, taking in the beauty of the buildings bathed in golden light. Just breathtaking! And the horses? They were elegant beauties! So sleek and perfectly trained – I couldn’t resist feeding them some sugar cubes. They were so sweet and gentle!
Now, my dear readers, it is time to embrace your inner ballerina. I am talking, of course, about wearing a pink tutu! Why not? Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone, to embrace a little bit of whimsical style, a dash of playfulness, and a lot of joy. You never know, it might just unlock a hidden ballerina within!
Now, as I bid you adieu for now, I'm already scheming for my next adventure. Perhaps a grand tour of the Loire Valley in France? I've heard that the châteaux there are even more dazzling than those of the Loire Valley and the wine, oh darling, the wine is supposed to be heavenly! But for now, Vienna holds my heart, and I'm leaving you with a piece of its magical energy.
Until next week, my dears, keep your head held high and your dreams grand,
Emma
